Hello everyone. I could sure use a little help on this one. My haynes book is worthless on AC stuff. My wife tore up a sepentine belt tonight, so i replaced it, but as soon as I fired the engine up I could tell it was dragging on the AC clutch pulley. The AC has not worked in years, but i don;t know how to go about removing the clutch pulley to get to the smaller pulley that spins freely inside it. Can it be done and if so do I ned a shorter belt? Please help if you can. I would sure appreciate it. Thanks., JM: help:

Your Haynes manual should have a belt diagram for both with and without a/c. If not, it should be somewhere under the hood (not sure if both with and without are under hood)... You'll need a shorter belt (just ask for a belt for your van without a/c) ..
I did the same thing on my 626 when the clutch burnt out.. Was just a quick belt swap and I was good to go.
Good luck!
*edit* oh I totally misread.. I thought you were trying to bypass the a/c altogether... If you aren't, just ignore what I wrote :)

Hi Ben. Thanks for the info. If I can simply bypass the AC altogether that would be great, but I don't have the diagram to show the belt path. Anyone able to supply one? Thanks, JM

I took a picture of my diagram under the hood... It's an 05, so it's probably useless in your situation.
If your diagram isn't under the hood anymore (fell off or faded?) you may want to check with AutoZone, they may have belt routing diagrams in their computer.. From what it looks like, I wouldn't be able to bypass a/c because it's "in the way" if i don't route my belt around it. But that may not be the case for you.

This sounds like a bad bearing. Unfortunately, to replace the bearing (which is pretty cheap) you have to remove the clutch assembly. To get the clutch off, you need a special puller/installer tool. If the A/C isn't working, and it isn't filled with refrigerant, you might want to check and see if Dorman makes an A/C bypass pulley for your vehicle. It bolts in place of the compressor and has a pulley on the front of it so you just use the same belt. cost around $30. Check out www.rockauto.com
