Yesterday i went with one of my friends to a local dirt dash, i was his pit crew and he was the driver. It was our first time, we had a 85 oldsmobile cutlass ciera. He missed his first race due to a rollbar not being properly secured. I fixed that and he got in the second race got 4th place then his fuel pump died right when he was about leaving the staging area for the 3rd race, so he didnt make it to the allstar race thing. The allstar was for the top 8 cars from all the preveous races, and winner takes $600.
Anyway their is an Enduro on october 10th in proctor MN, that were goin to enter as long as we find 2 cars, one for me and one for him. Their is a neon at the end of my street, that has been their for a long while now. Its sitting on the frame it looks like, but the wheels are still their, and im wondering what is wrong with it? Im gunna go talk to them this weekend and see what there going to do with it and hopefully i can buy it and run it in the enduro. Its a white 4dr expresso, and thats all i know about it so far.
Has anyone ever run a neon in an enduro or any kind of dirt track racing? the only rules are needs some kind of rollbar, an extinguisher, window net, no exhaust, no interior, and the battery needs to be strapped in, and some other things i cant remember right now, but i have a list with the ruels. I think a neon will be perfect for this, any thoughts or pics of dirt track neons?

There have been plenty of Neons used for dirt track races. The only thing about you getting the Expresso is that it's most likely a dohc atx. At least all the one's ive seen were.

Sweet, i was thinkin it would be a dohc, and as far as the atx that might be a good thing for the enduro, its 100 laps total. 50 one way then 50 the other way. Im just hoping that when i go talk to the people about the expresso i hope they dont say it broke the timing belt.

ATX is not a good thing for dirt track racing.... 3.55 MTX is. With a DOHC, 3.55 trans, and the Mopar PCM you can stay in 2nd gear up to 70mph-ish, so you can basically sit in second and never have to shift depending on how long the track is.
There is a guy on the .org extensively modifying his car for oval dirt track... Last I knew he had removed the 5th gear for less rotating mass in the drive train...

I think id rather have the atx for now tho as this will be my first enduro, so id rather have as little to do as possible and not have to worrry about shifts. But the mtx would be sweet aswell. It will be mostly stock engine wise tho if i even get the car. If i dont end up getting it i will just use what ever car i can find. My buddie just got his car its a crown vic v-8 rwd, idk what year.

Yeah, passing at 55 was a blast in that car. 3rd went up to 105-ish. Highest I ever got in 4th was 6700-6800rpm, a wee bit shy of 130mph.
SOHC98 ---- find a DOHC car, stick a used mopar pcm in it ($140 shipped is a good price) and a 3.55:1 trans (price varies, but easy to find). Stick it in 2nd and race. You shouldnt have to shift and you'll have 15% more power at the wheels than an ATX.

Well i just talked to the guy who i got a bunch of parts from a while back, said he would try to find me a car, im still gunna look into the expresso and run that if their willing to part with it. I dont know if id wanna spend any money to upgrade a car thats just gunna be crashed, but then again if i get it i will keep the motor if its a dohc, and pull my sohc out. Im gunna go see about the expresso this weekend. Oh and i went to see the crown vic, its a 93, and its kinda in rough shape, no key or ignition, lots of dents and the drivers seat is held in place with a ratchet strap...lol, runs like a top tho. And it had 4 cats on it, which i thought was weird.

Well i went to see about the expresso yesterday and they don't even know who's it is, but its sitting in their driveway, which is hard to believe. They said they will try to find out who's it is for me. They said if they find out its their car i could take it. How do you have a car in your driveway for a year+ and not know who's it is?

"They said if they find out its their car i could take it" Ummmmmmmm yeah! OOOK! Right!! Thats how I would have ended the conversation .
You might want to start looking again. If it were me, I think id want a rwd car. I might even consider a Rustang! Just for the fact that Id enjoy tearing it to peices on the track!!!

Im pretty sure their crack heads as they were probly around the 30 yr range. Im just looking for the cheapest car i can find to run. I know i wont win as it will be my first enduro. So far i found an escort for $800 but id rather get a $100 or less car.

Thats funny as hell. I figured that they will most likely sell it and probly for pretty cheap too. Iv got my fingers crossed. And if it isnt theirs and they sell it to me it wont matter much since it will be and enduro car...unless its in better shape than my current car (which isnt Hard to be) ill just enduro mine. We'll see tho.

I said their was an enduro on the 10th but i meant the 11th, which was yesterday. Well i went to it with the same friends as the first one. i didn't have a car but i rode in passenger seat of his 93 crown vic. I video taped while i was with. We were doin super good at least i the top 5 cars out their. In the first half of the race we took out at least 5 or 6 cars if not more. then in the last ten minutes of that half coming around the backstretch our car died, right in the middle of the track. About 20 or so cars went around us as we were trying to get it restarted. have to start it with a screw driver. We got nailed buy an older car right in the back so hard that i broke my video camera and my helmet got ripped off. I also got a bad case of whiplash.
At the half we got it towed out to the pits and found out the problem was just a fuel pump reset switch (ford thing?) in the trunk was popped from bein hit to many times. We didnt actually figure it out the guys next to us were helping out. We also had two flats both drivers side. Put a full size from the passenger front on the back and to doughnuts on the front, added oil (burns more oil than gas) and some more coolant.
Then my driver and his sister went out for the second half. They made it about a half lap then got plowed into the mud piles at the bottom of the track and were stuck their for the rest of the half. I went out in the sisters boyfriends caviler, when he went back out. We made it about 6 laps then his tranny gave out, and the car went into some kind of limp mode. It wouldnt rev past 1k rpm's and put it in drive it wouldn't move at all.
I just figured id let ya know what all happened with this. Iv got a picture of our cars and a few more (i think). Ohh yea there was also two neons out their, both were coupe's. Ill upload the pics i got in a little bit. And for next year im probably going to be running something, most likely my neon since im looking for a new car, and my neon is a huge piece of crap. Idk though yet.

Looks way too dangerous man. Where are the roll cages?
sohc98
10-13-2008, 10:57 PM
Their not needed but are optional. The prelude is fully caged. I think only like two or three others had cages in them. Their was no rollovers or flips or anything like that.
