Hi all,
I am writing about my 00 neon. I just recently overhauled it as it has 175k and still going strong. I have a 3 spd auto with modded valve body which I just installed, shifts faster, put in a new magnaflow muffler, replaced timing belt, tensioner, water pump, serpentine bracket with tensioner, altenator, fuel pump, all four struts, tie rod ends. I am amazed at how my neon has held up over the yrs. Does'nt burn any oil and has only teenny bit of rust underneath and alot of stuff I just replaced were from the factory original, minus water pump and timing belt. I just want to know about the cold air intake I just bought. When I look at the stock airbox I notice alot of plug in sensors into it. As well as a couple of vacuum hoses that run into the stock air box too. The new intake has a place for a vacuum hose and a rubber fitting for the mass airlow sensor. What happens to the plug in sensors from the stock air box, do I have to custom fit them into the new intake or do they not get used. I bought the intake from ebay and it was custom made for my year, came with directions that just tells ya how to hook the vaccum hose and mass air flow sensor. Just wondering how you incororate this new intake into the car. Any help would be great thx....

Your first problem is that you bought it from ebay. Your second problem is that you don't know your engine very well. Neons don't have a MAF (mass air flow) sensor. That intake will not work. Your neon will have a MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor in the intake manifold, and IAT (intake air temp) in the intake snorkle, a TPS (throttle position sensor) on the throttle body, an IAC (idle air controller) on the throttle body, and a breather line connected to the intake snorkle and the valve cover.
As a general rule, stay far far away from anything on ebay that says "custom fit".

Alrighty then,
Thx for that nice smart ass reply. I you cant give me something encouraging and respectul then please leave your ignorant comments to yourself. I was asking for some advice and dont need some smart ass know it all to tell me whats right and wrong. My friend who is a master mechanic will be the judge of this intake being right or wrong. I asked this ques ahead of time before he even saw it. The store on ebay from which I purchased it from had a 99 percent positive feedback with almost everyone liking the product so thats why I bought it. I may have not explained myself correctly and quite frankly I will just wait. I'm sure there are alot of decent folks on here who are respectul. Mr. Rice Eater however has his tighty whities so far up his bunghole he has to hammer down on someone who might not be as knowledgeable as him....

umm ok buddy, just so ya know rice eater is probably one of the smartest guys on here, and if you think he's a smart ass id like you to go over to the org and ask a question like this and see what happens, rice would look the virgin mary compared to them. First thing they would see is automatic then you would be done for as talk of atx is prohibited on the .org.
Ok now for some good news the ebay store could have just messed up and put MAF but really meant MAP. Idk much about 2 gens since the differ from 1 gens more than i thought but it might work and a link or pic of this intake might help to get some "positive feedback" but if its just a cheapo thing i bet you will be dissapointed seeing as all it would really do is add noise to your engine, but then if its a AEM or something then thats a whole different story.
Good luck and welcome to dt

Its probably one of those $15.00 CAI off ebay. It will never work right. My 17yr old son wanted to buy one and I had to explain why it wouldnt work. Good luck with the install.

:thatfunny Mr. Tough Guy wants us to help him on here but he's already cussing at people in his 2nd post. Good luck with that strategy. I apologize for offending your infinite wisdom of motorized vehicles, maybe you can just figure this out yourself? Or take your car in and have your "master mechanic" do it for you. ;)
Now say you adjust your attitude and don't think you can just come on her and start calling names in your 2nd post, then maybe I would tell you that what you should do is remove the factory air box and intake silencer, replace the factory cone filter with an AEM or K&N unit, and fabricate a heat sheild and some ductwork to redirect cold air from the fenderwell toward the filter. That'll do you just as well as any quality CAI setup for your car (i.e. not ebay junk) and be tons cheaper. If you would rather have a plug and play operation the AEM is the one you want (relocates filter inside the fender).
You *might* see a 4-5whp gain from a GOOD cold air intake. By comparrison swapping your auto trans for a 5 speed would give you 20 extra ponies at the wheels.
