New member here. A couple of months ago our 99 Intrepid lost all but the highest speed for the a/c, heater blower motor. T/S and found an open in the resistor module. The open was created at what appears to be a thermal protection device in the resistor module itself. The thermal protector as I call it connects the resistors inline to the motor lead and high speed input that share simmilar lugs. I replaced it then not thinking much about it but a couple of weeks after replacing it went out again, same symptom. T/S again and the same device in the resistor module opened up again. I'm wondering if the blower motor is drawing to many amps and causing the resistor to overheat and hence my problem? Thanks for any help.

Brian,
Did you ever get this one figured out? I'm having the same problem. How tough is it to replace the Blower Motor Resistor? Where is it located? Do I need any special tools?

What did you find was wrong with the blower Brian?
So far I replaced the resistor(blew again) and the control head. Still only high blower. The reisitor gets real hot on other speeds so it acts like a ground?
Will take it in today to dealer,

What about the blower motor itself? Could very well be some bad wiring too.

Think I found the problem before going to the dealer.
At the blower motor connection to resistor, check the ground side of the blower motor. I did this with a test light and found power leaking to ground. I also connected power to the motor after disconnecting it from the resistor and still got a bad ground. Looks like I will be getting a new blower motor.
Hope this helps

anyone have a final answer to this? was it the blower motor or a wiring problem? I've started having the same issue on mine now!!!
also, where is the resistor (or resistor pack) located?
Thanks

I just spent the $24 and got a new resistor pack from the local dealer. Installed it and behold, again had speeds 1, 2 and 3. Its held up for 2 days now, so not sure if there is any wiring issue. I guess that the black and green wires on the connector going to the motor are all there are for that (one resisted positive and the other ground) but am not sure how to check for the bad ground mentioned previously.

Hope yours last Paul...I think I got a week or less and now I only use High as it doesn't kick in the resistor. I have got to pull the motor and stick in this used one and see what happens. Just been too busy.
Resistor was $17.00 here in Florida. If you find out later iis your motor, you can go to FreedonDodge.com and get a new one for 80.00. Which is what I should have done probably.
Good Luck

Try www.car-part.com for a junkyard search... Yeah, it's junkyard, but you can find things ridiculously cheap.
