http://www.4x4posi-lok.com/ The factory unit uses a vacuum canister and lines from that unit to an actuator that houses a steel ball inside a die cast aluminum housing. It easily corrodes from basically lack of usage and the ball sticks preventing the necessary vacuum for operation. The posi-lok is a mechanical answer that bypasses the vacuum canister and uses a cable operated slip collar around the axle splines. Someday I want to install one on my Dana 60F.

The Posi Lock systems isn't cheap, but it is well worth the money!

Anyone know the specifics of going to manual hubs? would hubs from a TTB D44 work at all? I've read how to permanently lock the sleeve in place with the shift fork just wondering about the hubs.
I'm looking at a 1992 ram 4X4 for a winter vehicle/toy hauler and I know it has troubles with the front end not engaging. If its no big deal to fix then I'm gonna jump on it. If its gonna be another pain in my ass (like my old f-150) Then I wont bother.
Thanks

when i took my 89 to the shop for the same reason, all they did was run a vacuum line from the axle to the vacuum tree on the intake to lock the axle when the truck is running, and i installed manuels hubs, cheap fix, less than $200, been like that for 2 years and no problems

I guess I'll have to figure it out now, picking it up today. Hopefully everything else is ok.
I found a vacuum diagram for the 4wd, it looks pretty easy to work with. Any idea what they did with the switch on the transfer case?

i dont belive you would have to do anything with the switch on the transfer case, but i took all the lines loose and plugged the holes so no debris would get up in there
