ok this morning truck starts fine i get to work, 11:45 am i try to start it and nothing, it makes a click but nothing happens engine wont turn over, and starter does not kick over. any suggestions?
I think it is the starter, if that is your answer, what would i need to change it, i am at home and don't have the Chilton manual to see what i might need . and the truck is at work .
btw i just changed the spark plugs, and plug wires and replaced the air filter last sunday.

I was thinking battery, the starter clicks maybe not enough battery to crank it over.

Check those cables. Not just for being loose, but check to make sure they're not corroded as well. Ask me how I know this...go ahead, ask me. :violen:

well i get power to my lights and radio thought that would rule out the battery . and the gauges show a charge on the batt, i had some one jump the batt and same result click, no turnover
btw how do you know this ?

Might want to check your voltage regulator also.

oh yeah i have seen a little corrosion on the cable near the battery. but i don't see how my lights would start yet my engine or starter not getting power

I switched to HEI, but would the porcelin box have anything to do with it? Ground strap? I am just throwing stuff out there. Mine did that too, I got sick of tore it apart...and re-wired it with a painless kit.

On the other hand, maybe it's just the starter went buns-up. It does happen....
I'd pull the starter and bench-test it....

the circut on behind your amp meter in your dash could have fried like mine did...
tap your starter with a hammer and see what happens, you could have some brush problems.
if the ballast resistor went, i think that it would start but die after the key was turned from start to run.

the starter was my first thought, reason why is because the truck runs pretty well, engine and trany rebuilt and the battery is 1 year old, luckily i broke down with an autozone cross the street :)

Does your large battery negative cable connect to the engine/transmission? If it goes to the frame there should be another large cable from the frame to the engine/tranmission.
As stated before the starter might have landed butter side down..Worn out.

Turn the ignition in the run position (make sure transmission is in park or neutral if a manual transmission). Touch the big terminal and little terminal together with a screwdriver on the starter and see if it cranks. Mine will get hung up every once in a while and this has always fixed it.
