Don't expect a noticeable increase in MPG, but you might pick up 3-5HP. I built one for my '96 3.3 by using PVC pipe, and coming off of the rubber boot attached to the throttle body, coming down 90 degrees and adding enough extra PVC to put a K&N cone filter just behind the fascia (grill). Bottom line is to get the filter out of the engine compartment and behind the grill area for cooler air.

If you follow the air path, you already have a FWI although obviously not one with a cone filter. The term CAI typically means that the filter is within the engine compartment and as srt hemi mentioned, is not the best location.
I have a FWI with my supercharged Bonneville and while there is a certain "coolness" factor when you get into the supercharger, I can't say that I've noticed much in the way of mileage or horsepower gain.

Thanks for the info-- what diameter PVC did you use?
Thanks

I put in a K&N drop-in filter in my '02 GC. It might have made a .5 MPG difference. If I was to do it all over again I would probably go with an AMSoil drop-in filter instead since it is a dry filter and likely has better flow than the K&N.
