Hi, got my 77 w200 all tore apart, wondering if there is a way to get more than 2 wiper speeds out of it. What later year did these trucks come with 3 or more wiper speeds ?, would a newer wiper motor physically bolt in ?, what kind of wiring changes would I need to make ? anybody ever look into this ? , it might be an easy mod. thanks, mike becker (btw , thanks for the info on the core support mounts)

Hmmmmmmm, modify a light switch? The one form my Dodge is the same as the one form my 97 Mustang, I kid you not. They are simple and cheep.

You know how you turn your light switch to brighten or dim your dash lights? Could you perhaps solder up some connectors and after testing with a multi meter plug them on to your wipers? They both regulate the same 12V current, they both work almost the same way and im sure they both will attach in to your dash the same. (actually im damn sure they will)
Where you would normally push the switch in to pump fluid, you could wire it so when you pull it out as if turning on your head lights "On" it completes the circuit to the wiper fluid pump... So all that you need to do is push it back in to make it stop.
Figure its worth giving a try?

I am not sure if the light switch ploy will work
The dimmer set-up uses a variable resistor where as the 2 speed wiper set-up, I believe, uses two sets of windings to get the two speeds
Most wiper motors, even in todays vehicles, use, I belive, a 2 speed motor and then uses an electronic timing switch to send current to the motor intermittently to get the intermittent action.
I think trying to use a dimmer rheostat to control the motor speed might take a great deal of electrical engineering and might also be asking for an electrical fire

As some one who knows about electronics, I agree with action mike. A light switch is made to dim interior lights which draw about 1/10th of the current a wiper motor... A motor would burn out the variable rheostat (dimmer).
I would use a system that is proven: motor, switch and wiring.
Some early A-100 vans and probably trucks also used a multi-speed wiper motor+switch. You might also look at Chrysler cars (Luxury versions) to see if they use a multi-speed system.
