So i've spun a bearing in the 2.0L, knocking like mad now
so i've done some research and found a good 2.4 for $50
also found a guy over at neons.org who makes the side motor mount, PS bracket, and even the A/C bracket to fit a 2.4
so i figure im gonna dive right in
wish me luck

set of used crane 18s on the .org for $333, you can usually talk people down. 2.4's will take 18's without increased compression. ;) You'll need crane valvesprings too though ($99 new). Thought there was a used PT valvetrain up pretty cheap too, might be gone already though, they go fast.
I'm probably going to end up sticking with my 2.0L. Runs like a top, no noises/vibrations, excellent compression. And I've never heard of a 2.4L getting better than 32-34mpg highway, even stock, which royally sucks compared to the 34-43mpg I got in my old 2.0L (with more miles, less compression, etc...).
Good luck.

You should do a project log on this, there's a bout a billion of them on the org but still none on here you could be the first dt srt swap project log. :D

Picked up my 2.4 today
Timing belt, water pump and basepan is missing (also both manifolds, but i dont need them). still a good deal for an even swap for a '98 caravan overhead console :P
I think the stock oil filter location is gonna cause me problems, so im gonna order an SRT4 basepan and oil pickup. an SRT water pump, and the timing belt tensioner. mine has the spring loaded one, not the hydraulic (anyone know which is the better? i was leaning towards the SRT one)
i plan to tear it all down and rebuild it stock for now, just so i know it works
Waiting on a price from superD over at neons.org who makes a kickass set of power steering, A/C, side and front motor mounts that work seamlessly with 2.4's in neons
the 2.0L is still kickin for now, quite loudly i might add
i'll post up some pics of the motor tomorrow

I'd hold off on ordering those parts until you do some digging on the .org. Theres a whole mess of info out there, I just haven't gone through it. I have heard the the tensioner setup is better if you're going to be running bigger cams though (which is a must on a 2.4L, 18s if you don't want to swap internals, 22's on high compression ;) ). I'm not sure why that is, but that's what I've heard. That and people seem to have problems getting the hydraulic setup to work correctly. Again, I don't know much about it, but recommend you do some digging before ordering parts. Good luck.

Everone over at the .org seems to favour the SRT tensioner and water pump setup. (SRT water pump because of clearance issues with the stratus pump and SRT tensioner) im not sure, but i dont think the SRT tensioner is a hydraulic one. I read a few posts about using crane 18's or 22's that you have to modify it and use a bigger bolt. and i have seen references to a hydraulic setup someone over there has for the 2.4. since im leaning towards a turbo setup later on i think the SRT one will do just fine.
I need the SRT oil pump and oil filter adapter to clear up a potential oil filter location issue. and because of that i need the SRT oil pan as well because the oil filter adaptor attaches to it
I have just ordered the mount kit from superD; P/S, A/C, Pass. motor mount, and front motor mount, for just a tad over $300 incl. shipping to canada
Can be found here: http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?t=307610
finally got my motor mounted to an engine stand tonight, so here are a few pics (please excuse the extremely messy and disorganized garage)
The third pic shows the oil filter location on my engine
the last one shows the SRT setup, which also sports an engine oil cooler :D

Thanks man!
I'm not sure if i've seen anyone at the .org with a 2.4 swapped 2nd gen? would make a great project for sure.

Got my brackets, they all look good, but havent tried to fit anything as of yet
This project is on hold for a while now, spied an awesome deal on an '05 Chrysler 300, so i will be ridding myself of both neons before next week. but the 2.4 will still go ahead in the future. may pick up another body soon if i come across a good one, as both mine were not hardly worth the trouble
