I don't know if i'm putting this in the right place or not but i'm in the process of starting to restore a '78 or '79 power wagon (i can't decide weather to go with the round or dual headlights..opinions welcomed) Anyhow I just picked up a new old stock bed on here and realized(after i got it home) It was set up for dual tanks. What i'm wondering is does anyone on here have what i would need to make my truck have dual tanks as far as in cab switches and things go? I was also wondering if the front and back tanks are different or can I use one off of another single tank truck? Any help at all will be appreciated and thanks in advance for all your help

as far as i know, the rear rear tank will work from a ram charger, someone has done the swap on here or ramchargercentral.com explaining everything.

the switch should be the same as mine and generally found on all trucks with dual tanks be it in cab tank and in box like me or both in box like you.

the switch is a simple one that controls what i think is a valve that opens one tank and closes another, im not sure. right now mine is pooched untill i pull my new one from my parts truck so right now i have my box tank hooked directley to my fuel pump. it is also slightley resessed in the dash like your light switch so theres easy "right" way to do it. you are better off doing whatever you think would be best.

hell, you dont even need to run both tanks, you can just put a cap on the one spout for looks.

Wouldnt it be easier to weld two tanks together?

...

To begin, the tank in the front of the box is plastic, im sure the rear box gas tank is plastic too thoe the incab one is steel.

even if you went all out and glued two tanks togther, where would you put them? the tanks take up all the space that they are designed go.

It takes a bit of modding to make the Ramcharger tank work. I've done it in mine, I have a mostly finished writeup on it if you want it, I can e-mail it to you. I just haven't finished writing the part about cutting the hole for the filler neck, but that won't matter to you since you already have a hole.

I have a 76 D200 dual set up. Plastic tank under the front corner of the bed and a Metal tank where the spare tire would go. I have a new valve for the dual tanks if interested. As far as I know it works as it is still in the MOPAR box I have a 76 new grille for sale too for this truck if your interested too.
