I live in Michigan - home to the famous Woodward "Dream Cruise" and in todays paper there is an article on about how some people think only "Classic" autos should be allowed in the show

Others believe if they have a fancy / souped up newer model, it has the same right

....

so ... whats your .02 ?

Today's cars are the classics of tomorrow. Insurance companies say it isn't classis unless it is 15 years old.
30,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles were there last year and my .02 would say that a riced out fart tipped stickered car of any kind... unless it was a known race car, should stay in the garage. The theme mainly supports the older cars but I would bet that the 50th anniversary Corvette will be there since they are major sponsors. No matter what... The bottom line ..... MONEY
So if a 2002 Dodge Ram wants to be a part of the action... let them go for it

Let me tell you what, I'm a classic car owner and restorer, but I Love to see new stuff just as much as I do the older stuff. As long as letting the new rides in doesn't chase out all of the sweet older rides, I'm fine with that. I respect anyone who had an interest in their car and making one that is unique and shows the owner's personal taste... but you all know that there are some real tight @$$es out there who are real anal about letting new vehicles in with thier old rides. I feel that all automobiles should be allowed in the Woodward. The perfect example to this is the Woodward Edition Prowler shown at last years Dream Cruise. A new custom car named after a traditionally classic cruise. This shows the new direction that the cruise is taking. I hope it never strays completely from the older classics, but tomorrow's classics are certainly works of art as well.

Not to make anyone mad, but I like to see older stuff. I'm getting real tired of seeing PT Cruisers, GM F-bodies, and GT Mustangs at cruise ins. I can go to the dealer and see those cars or on any intersection. I take that back...I'd rather see those than the ricers that are starting to invade cruise-ins. But hey, its a free country, so I just walk right past those Hondas.

The only time it really sucks, is when they take the trophies that should go to classics. Other than that, if they are proud of their ride let 'em show it.

I believe ALL of the 1992 through 2002 Vipers are TRUE CLASSICS. Their design transcends the age of the automobile.

Most other cars and trucks are classics-in-waiting. They WILL be classics in the future.

I disagree. New cars are called sports cars. Muscle cars are a vehicle of the past. Everything anymore is a sports car. Besides dodge never made a good muscle or sports car. Chevy has always dominated the sports/muscle car industry.

never .... well, thats a little broad wouldnt you say ?

if we are talking Dodge Muscle cars - how about the Hemi Cuda ?

Hard to beat a GTX w/440 ....

and Superbirds were so dominating that NASCAR wouldnt allow them anymore ...

Vipers are modern day Muscle cars IMO ...

Ford has its BOSS 429 Mustangs / Olds had their 442's, Pontiac had some nice GTOs ... so I dont think you can Chevy has always dominated ...

while most major brands have produced good muscle cars over the years
I will agree that Chevy has made a fair share of sports / muscle cars ....

 Whatever Billy Joe Hendrix, I'll take the bait.

If a V10 Viper isn't a muscle car then what is? If Chevy/GM dominates the sports/muscle car industry, then why are they discontinuing the Camaro and the Firebird? Because they can't hang with the Mustang!? How many stock Vettes do you see outperforming stock Vipers? I don't know that much about older 60s & 70s sports/muscle cars, but I do know that the Charger, Challenger, Road Runner, Super Bee, Dart, Coronet, and Cuda weren't all that bad. The Hemi kicked a$$ and it will again very soon. :D So I guess I will have to disagree with you and say that there are muscle cars and sports cars today and that Chevy definitely does not dominate either one of those markets.

Muscle cars will always be the ones with a large engine in a small car period!
This will never change, whatever year the vehicle is.

Chevy dominate??????? What color is the sky in your world anyway:dunno:

Before you people make fun of my statements why don't you look up the definition of a muscle car, and a sports car. Muscle cars are lightweight vehicles, bone stock, except that they have big engines. They are designed to move in a straight line. Sports cars can also have big engines and be light weight, but they come with comfort options with the vehicle. Also sports cars are designed to steer and handle. Muscle cars don't.

The better drivers are able to get into the 11.9, 11.8, 11.7 ETs with a stock Gen II Viper (1996-2002) and a good driver can take a stock Viper and get 11.6 ET. Average drivers will get the 12.2 posted as #1 on the list of the 50 Fastest.

Are we restricting "MUSCLE CARS" to street legal cars???

If we are just talking about light weight cars with big engines that only go in a straight line, what about the Chrysler factory light weight cars. They had aluminum front ends, no window crank mechanisms, and hemis under the hoods.(alot of other weight reduction items I can't recall at this moment)

I also remember my brother running his stock 72 RR in the low 13's with just cheater slicks. That's with 3:73 rear gears also.
Once he did a little tweaking and added a monster holley double pumper and 4:10 gears he had a semi-pro driver take it down the track and it ran an 11.90.

It doesn't have to be light weight to have enough muscle to blow away the typical Slomaro.

I've personnally done plenty of that with my 70 New Yorker(440 and limited slip rear BONE STOCK)

Rich

Sorry RAM MAN a little off the topic.

Hey, pal. You've being a little bit hypocritical, obviously never stepping foot in a muscle car before. My 66 Coronet handles like a Go-Cart, and will lite up the tires if you mash the gas while cruising 35 MPH.
And you know what me and my muscle car buddies do for fun around here? We go downtown to the strip district and shut down every "Sports cars" in the entire zip code for fun.

You're in the wrong place saying Mopar never made a Good muscle car.

I Deffinately think that the New cars should be allowed as I have done close to $20,000 worth of work to my Neon and have won several shows with it. I LOVE old Mopars and new ones. We are all in this hobby for the same reason and neither of us should be outlawed from attending UNLESS it states that it is Purely Import or Sport compact or Classic

I know the Old Mopars we some wicked cars, I used to have a 68 340 Cuda I threw a Six Pack and headers and cheaterslicks and turned high 12's but now I run a worked over Neon and am running 12.6-12.7 so comeone guys you have to give us "Ricers" Some credit. I like being as fast as I am (without nitrous) and still get 20mpg. I will never shun Classic Mopars. and Just becuase mine is considered a Sport Compact it has NO comfert accesorries, I have Sparco Racing Seats, Simpson Harness, Diamond Plate interior and a bunch of other aftermarket stuff. my only luxory is the stereo system

I'm Sorry if I take Best of Show or Best Paint, but D@MN I worked my butt off to make my car as great as it is. I get NO RESPECT from the local Muscle Car guys here and I even used to be one of them. don't get me wrong I still love the oldies as much now as ever but times are changing

OK, I attended this years Dream Cruse and had a blast. I loved seeing the old mixed with the new. I dont have a problem with that. What bothered me were all the ricers that were there. I just feel that if youare going to show your car do more than just stickers, wing, and fart can. That and there were three cars in a row (the only three doing burn outs) that were driven by kids that just got their licenses (looked even younger). The three (daddy's) cars were a (all brand new) Ferrari, Corvette, and Viper. Well thats my .02.
