I just wanted to post my experience of towing a fifth wheel with the Hemi motor. I have a Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi 3.73 LB. I recently purchased my fifth wheel from an RV dealership in Michigan and towed it back to Idaho (1800 Miles). The fifth wheel is a 2008 Cougar 310srx, dry weight of 8270 lbs. I was a bit concerned from reading the other posts regarding the Hemi towing capabilities that the Hemi may struggle with the weight and height. However my experience was just the opposite. The Hemi had no problems maintaining whatever speed I wanted, in fact when climbing the major pass on the east side of I-80 (with a 45-50 mph headwind), the Hemi had enough power to go at whatever speed I chose. Most of the time when climbing I let it shift into 2nd and it stayed around 3800 to 4000 rpm, comfortably. On level surface it would stay in fourth, locking and unlocking the torque converter occasionally when steeper hills were encountered (fairly rare). The gas mileage ranged from 7.8 in the headwind climbing portion to around 12 on a level surface. So for me I am very satisfied with the performance of the Hemi as a towing motor and would not hesitate recommending it to any looking for a gas tow vehicle. Just my opinion, everyone has one.

I too believe in the Hemi as a medium duty tow vehicle. I carry a camper & tow a 5000 lb boat just fine. 456's, exhaust, intake, & superchips dont hurt either. :)

Congratulations! I too am satisfied with the towing performance of the 5.7 Hemi. Hope that you enjoy your 5'er as much as we enjoy ours.

Your experience is much like mine. I'm very happy with the Hemi's performance towing. I average about 8.5mpg towing and have no lack of power around the southeast. I don't recommend the Hemi to others for towing because most folks burst into tears at the sound of the Hemi actually running in it's powerband.
Yes I've owned four Cummins powered Rams. They were also great for towing... Especially for those who fear the Hemi!
