Hey everybody, I have this squeeking in my D, that I think is coming from the sway bar bushings. I was planning on looseing them up and putting some grease on them. Thought I would check here to see if anybody had any other ideas. Seems to be coming from the front and back.

Well after a little bit more digging, I discovered that the noise is coming from the front side of the drivers side leaf spring. I sprayed it down with silicone spray. Didnt seem to help, but maybe if I drive it for a couple of days it will work itself in. Still looking for other ideas though.

Hi barkat:

There was a TSB out a while ago about the rear springs. It seems there's a problem with them making noise. Hmm, sound familiar? It may need new plastic pieces inserted in between the leaf's. Check with your dealer.

hey Ugg, thanks for the help. I will keep that in mind. So far they stopped makeing noise! All I did to them was spray the bushings down, real good with silicone spray. I did look at the plastic pieces that you are talking about, so far they look good.

I use a spray on motorcycle chain wax that is available at just about any motorcycle shop.

This stuff resists water and is o-ring safe so it won't hurt rubber bushings.
It outlasts anything else I've found so far, and I know several people that have started using it.

Hey thanks, that sounds like just what I need! So far the silicone spray is working real well, but it rained here today and is going to rain here tomorrow too. That will be the real test! Any brands that I should look for or not to get? What is this stuff marketed for? Lube? Cleaner? Wax? or just a go fast spray? :rck:

I used to use it for lubing the chain on my Banshee after a long day riding.
Some motorcycle chains use o-rings between the links.

This stuff is tough to wash off, since it's got parafin mixed in. The triflow's and silicons just can't resist the water as well.

You should be able to buy it at any motorcycle shop. I get mine at the local Yamaha dealership.

Hope this helps.

I just went after all the squeaks under the durango tonight, 1st I jacked the rear end up, put the frame on jack stands and let the rear end drop down on the floor jack until the leafs gap up on the rear springs.

I had some spray white lithium grease with the long narrow tube, and hit all the gaps I could with the nozzle, I pried a couple of the tight leafs apart and hit inbetween the nylon pads as well.

I stuck a scratch awl in the bushings for the rear sway bar to open a gap and sprayed there as well.

I tried to get the main leaf spring bushings and the sway bar ends, but it didn't work as good there.

I did the front also. I seem to have less squeaking on the front, and the rear is a little less noisy but still squeaks.

I know in the past that WD-40 was not recommended for rubber bushings, 'cause it could eat the rubber. I use the white spray grease on my boat to reduce corrosion, so I thought I'd try it on the durango.

So far, not bad, I'll let you know if I get all the squeaks out of the rear. I hope I don't have to demount the ends of the leaf springs and sway bar ends :YO:

Sorry, I forgot to report back! The advise about the motercycle chain wax was right on! The silicone worked real well for about a week and a half, then everything went to junk again. I sprayed everything down with that chain wax stuff just over a month ago, and still squeek free! It cost me about $10. for a 5.5 oz can at the local bike shop and it is worth three times that much! Like I say, sorry I forgot to follow up on this, hope it helps.

mine squeaks like that poor guy in the movie 'deliverance', really annoys me. I use the garden hose and soak everything, that lasts about 30 minutes, then right back to squeak squeak squeak. I guess I am just to lazy.

Most often I have heard that on front ends of most trucks, it is going to be the sway bar connects that make all that gawd awful noise. This is usually especially apparent when having the front wheels cocked in a direction and hitting a bump..like backing out of a driveway. Most shops will recommend replacing your sway bar bushings with urethane ones...most kits come with urethane bushings for all your bushing needs.
