Though we've yet to drive it, so far we're mighty impressed with the new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500's fresh approach in design and functionality that emphasizes day-to-day usability over extreme capability.
But we've only seen and touched the Crew Cab version. The traditional Regular Cab model has remained out of sight. No longer! Here are the first official Ram Regular Cab pictures, received from Chrysler.
The Regular Cab Ram 1500 will offer two bed lengths, 6-foot 4-inch or an 8-foot cargo box. The truck will have a 120-inch or 140-inch wheelbase, depending on the bed choice. The Ram pickups shown in this story all have the short box and 120-inch wheelbase. Unfortunately, you won't be able to order the innovative new 'RamBox' side saddle storage option. It will only be available for the Ram 1500 Crew Cab.
Pictured at the top is the Regular Cab Sport model, featuring a body colored grille and body colored front and rear bumpers.
The sportier R/T version (not pictured) will be based on the Regular Cab Sport, with a short box, two-wheel-drive, the 380-hp / 404 lb-ft. 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and a 5-speed automatic transmission. It will feature a ‘looser’ torque converter with a higher K factor rating than other HEMI equipped Rams and a 4.10 rear axle, for better off-the-line acceleration. Dodge promises the R/T Sport will deliver best-in-class 0 to 60-mph performance in about 6.1-seconds.
Pictured in the middle is the Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab ST, the work truck in the family. The ST can be ordered with a vinyl interior (seats and floor), 3.7-liter V6 and a 6-speed manual transmission - for those looking for a value priced half-ton pickup.
The truck at the bottom is the Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab TRX-4 off-road pickup. It features a two-tone paint job, suspension tweaks and Goodyear Wrangler SRA All Terrain tires. Its short wheelbase will be appreciated by four-wheel-drive fans looking for a nimbler full-size truck to take off the pavement. It should be interesting to see how quickly the Ram's new coil-spring rear suspension is embraced by TRX-4 drivers.

I still can't decide on the new body style. At first I thought they were great, then I thought they were ok, and now I just don't know. I'll have to see them in person before I decide. What I really want to see is the 2500/3500's when they come out. The Sport Pic is the best of the three though for sure.

Can't wait till they put a 6spd dual clutch sequential transmission in it.
That, and intake+long tubes+exhaust, with simply weight reduction, I'd say mid to high 13s no problem.

i hardly see how this is the "next" generation of trucks
when they went from 1st gen to 2nd gen, now that was a whole new truck, from 2nd to 3rd, That was a whole new truck.
from 3rd to 4th though, its just a minor face lift, hell the interiors still the same even!
just no creativity it seems,
look at chevy's last gen truck, looks nothing like their newest trucks! thats a generation change!

I am not sure what truck you are looking at, but the interior is all together new. Everything is different. They improved all the materials as well.
The big concern I have in looking at the GEN3 vs the Gen4 pics are the back of the cab space looks much smaller on the new Gen4, and that was a major selling point for me, on my 05 Regular cab. I need that space behind the seat. In a GM my seat back, was always all the way back against the glass, not so in the Gen3 Dodges, they have plenty of room behind the seat. Ford has space back there but the ford has those little cab doors that mate to the access doors, there something about that Ford setup makes getting in and out of the truck a literal pain in back. So if Dodge nixed that space back there, then that leaves only one choice left, that has decent space behind the seat of a regular cab, and I am not liking that a bit, because Toyota is the only other regular cab truck that has a decent amount of space behind the regular cab seat, its actually a little bit more room than even, the current Gen3 Ram's. So I hope its an optical illusion, but from looks of the pics, the 09' Ram has nixed that space back there, and is going to be more in line with the GM trucks, which suck in that reguard.

look at chevy's last gen truck, looks nothing like their newest trucks! thats a generation change! There is not a single body panel on the '08 shared with the '09, and the interior is completely different - not even close to the old one. Hardly a "minor face lift".
If Dodge had made a dramatic departure from the "Big Rig" look, people would have complained. There were rumors that this was going to happen and people here on DT were already fuming about it. Well, Chrysler listened and kept the signature Ram styling cues that everyone said they wanted. The result is a completely different truck with familiar looks. You can't please everyone, but I think this truck will keep a lot more Dodge fans happy than if they had went with something dramatically different.

You will be able to get an SLT regular cab and should be able to do as much with the interior as you can up to the SLT model. I am not sure the Laramie or Sport are being offered for the regular cab, however. I am very happy with the new Ram. It may be too big for me, but it is a great looking truck.

Yes...isnt it aweful what they have done with the 2009 :D
The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500’s new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 will produce 380 horsepower (283 kW), a 10 percent increase, and 404 lb-ft. (548 N·m) of torque, an 8 percent increase—while delivering an estimated 4 percent improvement in fuel economy.
The HEMI’s new VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine’s pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. Essentially, VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.
In addition to VVT and expanded MDS operating range, the HEMI’s fuel economy and performance improvements result from an increased compression ratio, an active intake manifold with long runners for low-end torque and short runners for high-rpm power, improved cylinder head port flow efficiency, and reduced restriction exhaust and induction systems.
Numerous other hardware upgrades were implemented to build on the quality, reliability and durability reputation of the HEMI engine. These include crankshaft structural upgrades, a dual-mass crankshaft damper, floating pin piston design, valve spring design and oil pump capacity increase for VVT.
The cooperative application of aerodynamic science and innovative styling led to aerodynamic improvements on the new Ram that resulted in an estimated coefficient of drag (Cd) of .422 for a crew cab 4x4 model – compared with a Cd of .463 for a 2008 Ram Quad Cab® 4x4 (and .42 for the original 1994 Dodge Ram!). Extensive wind-tunnel testing was conducted to hone the 2009 Dodge Ram’s exterior shape.

Really sad!Sorry to say it but these comments show tremendous ignorance of the product. Do some reading and I think you'll come around. As for styling, if you haven't seen it in person in a couple different trim levels (and most here haven't), you're in no position to judge, yet.
Just like every other Ram before, there will be some who love it and some who hate it. But few will argue that under the skin it's not the best new half-ton on the market.

I believe the Laramie pkg disappeared from the regular cab in the fall 2005 with the intro of the new 2006's. I think Dodge was the last mfg to offer a luxury pkg in a regular cab. I wish they would bring it back, thats was another reason I liked the Dodge over the competion. Its a pain in the butt to take and add everything to make your own after the fact. With this 09' it might be a year or two before the aftermarket gets leather skins ready for the new trucks, and the new laramie pkg is pretty sharp.

Yer right, it does look like the Tundra... it has 4 doors, 2 headlights, 2 foglights, a chrome grill, a bed, and 4 wheels.
There's only so many ways you can build a truck a guys! I'm just glad they got rid of the fugly "rip my eye lash's back" headlights!
If some of you don't see improvements, then I dunno what yer smokin'. I saw the rig in person at Chicago, and I saw NO resemblance to the Tundra. The Tundra frankly looked old. Finally Dodge has a product to strut it's stuff against the others, and not just be "the other truck".

I typically hate trucks and they grow on me. I remember when I saw my First gen 2 Ram in late 1993 which I hated at first. About a year later I bought one.

I love my '04 to death and I'll be keeping her until she's paid off - I'm "pot committed" at this point - but there is no way in hell I'd buy a new truck with the way gas prices are.
Once the truck gets paid off I'm getting a vehicle that runs off of happy thoughts and good intentions and the truck is getting relegated to weekend duty and hauling heavy stuff.

I'm thinking the same way myself. I would really like to park my truck and have a daily driver that is better on gas and fun to drive. I'm thinking the new Honda Accord Coupe would be fun. The 6spd manual with the V-6 would be a fun car, and would keep the upkeep on the truck down.
