power steering

I was at a local auto cross this weekend in my 01 neon, and unfortunately boiled the power steering fluid and the power steering cut on and off in my 4th run. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of just changing to synthetic fluid. Do you think this will solve my problem? Or am I going to have to install a cooler? Any help would be appreciated. By the way I still managed to place 4th out of 19 in STS.
