I got the driver side on yesterday with little trouble but now the passenger side is gonna make or break..
On the passenger the 4th tube back is hitting the oil filter, and looks like it'd hit the trans-dipstick, question is do I have to remove the oil filter and adapter thing then install the header and then the oil filter/adapter thing will fit? or what if anyone has picture of the passenger side I would love to see'em

Some of the cars used a 90deg. adapter to provide extra clearance for the exhaust system. This could be a cure-all for you. I'm not sure Mopar still has this available or not...or find a used one.

Yes I believe it has one of them, The adapter allows the filter to be parallel with the engine, my problem is the pipe is hittin the adapter/filter

Maybe this will help

Notice I cant move towards the back of the motor anymore because this adapter/filter are in the way
EDIT: Maybe if I remove the adapter the filter can sitck straight out of the motor like this -[] and I believe there is enough roomin between the header pipes that the filter will fit that way,
thing is if I remove the adapter will I be able to use the same model filter I have now?

I see the clearance problem... Yes the same filter model should work. PH-8a Fram
If you remove the adaptor you might need a threaded fitting to replace the part from the adaptor assuming the adaptor screws into the block. (The adaptor might screw onto the fitting which has oil filter/block threads on both ends and a flange in the middle.) These fittings usually have a 3/8" square drive in the center.

Yea, I was looking around for stuff to solve the probelm and found this
Its a oil filter remote mount kit, has anyone used one of these?
Does it allow the oil filter to be mounted out of the way say on the frame or somewhere else?
Is it just a hassle, waste of money, and a very bad idea?

I would clean, then remove the 90* filter adaptor... The relocation kit is made to mount the filter on the frame.
The drawback is more places to leak from.

So remove the adapter and go from filter straight to the block or filter relocation to the block?
Not worried about leaks, i'll fix'em

I would put the filter on the block if it will fit and clear the header.
It's the simplist way to go... In fact, I don't know why that 90* adaptor is on there, it's something I have seen on cars due to tighter clearances around the filter.
If you go for the relocation kit, I would advise teflon tape on the threads because the aluminum expands faster than the brass fittings... I learned this in the days I hotrodded VW's.

Yeah I don't think it'll fit with that adapter on there. That engine must've came out of a car, trucks never had that from the factory. You'll need to find a junk motor in a yard or something to get the plate to replace that. I dunno what it's called exactly, but when you unscrew the filter from the engine you'll see the big bolt in the center, take that out and the plate behind it will come off. You'll need the bolt too. If I get a chance later I'll get a pic.

Yea me and my dad have figured this out now, like speeddrag said theres some sort of plate that the oil filter has to screw in so, I have to find one...

The M bodied cars (5th Ave, Dodge diplomat, Plymouth gran fury had a oil filter mount that the filter faced the rear of the car. A 90 degree filter adapter I think it was called. :gr_patrio

+1 on Speed Dragon.
I have this 90 angle on my truck - but I know the engine was outta a car - I believe all the "a" body cars need this turn to clear the inner fenderwell.
My original 318 is straight, and it's pretty easy to acquire the pieces you need - any small block mopar will have it. I'd give you mine off my old engine but I'm gonna do headers on mine sometime, so I guess I'll need it too.
I'll most likely be yarding this weekend, and if I run accross one I can snag it for you - unless you get one before that.
I'd not recommend the filter relocating kit for a truck - specially if it sees any real action - i had a buddy have something bounce up and sever a line on couldn't get the truck home with no oil.....
I also had one on my 440 in my Charger (previous owner had installed) - looked cool, but had a similiar problem - rubber line cracked / was cut and I was on the side of the road with quite an oil mess all over the car. (Granted it was helping to rust proof the car...but....)
Needless to say, I went back to the normal setup and have not had a problem since.

I forgot.....
I have a 318 in my back yard that I'm 99% sure has the straight filter on it. When I get home tonight I'll verify that and if so and if the pieces are good, you can have it. (cant see why they would go bad - specially since the oil filter is still in place.)

I knew someone with a truck would have the answer. (I didn't look close at the adaptor and realize it uses the direct to block mount.)
You could use the filter relocation kit or get the plate and fitting along with a gasket to install the filter straigt onto the engine.

My dad found the plate, advance auto has it as a Fram part#k21. It'll be here tomorrow morning, hope its fits up and all.

Can I ask what headers you are installing (reason being that eventually i'll be doing this and any info is a good thing) ?

Hedmen Hedders, There working out great its just my engine is from a car.
Original Starter fits fine, everything fits perfect its just I have the 90deg adapter from a car on there. And for like 11$ it may be solved by advanced auto parts
K21 Fram oil filter conversion kit.

What I did was,
Driver-Side
Disconnected the battery.
Removed Exhaust manifolds, and all old exhaust pipe.
Removed the starter.
Removed spark plug wires ( number them if your dont have a diagram).
Un-Mounted the Brake Proportional valve and brakeline mount from the frame for a little clearance.
Installed driver side header from the bottom of the engine.
Had to use a Crowbar and lift up the engine mount so the top of the header would clear little square notches on the heads.
Re-installed the starter.
Mounted the Brake Proportion valve and brakeline mount.
and the header is waiting to be tighted down.
Passenger-Side
Battery still disconnected.
Exhaust manifold was removed and nothing is in the way.
Installed the header from the top.
Then I found out this 90 degree oil filter adapter is in the way, make a long story short, It was removed, and now the header fits perfectly.
Tomorrow afternoon, I'll go down the Advance pick up the correct oil filter mount (K21 Fram oil filter conversion kit). Install it, the filter, bolt up the headers nice and tight and get ready to run some exhaust pipe
So basically if you dont have a 90degree oil filter mount your fine. If you do, I'll let yall know if this one works

It worked perfectly, used a PH8A (larger than the ph43) fram filter and everything cleared very nicely, tomorrow i'll try to get exhaust ran and pick up a heatshield for the start (safer than sorry).
but man open headers are loud :rck: me and my dad got headaches just from runnin her up the street, thats not including the paint burnin off..haha put a haze in the front yard.
