I just inspected some brake drums I had sitting unopened on my parts shelf for about a year. On one I found some pitting in the machined braking surface (no rust, just rough pitting in one area).

I emailed RockAuto, who sold me the drums, they said sorry, out of warranty (purchased 13 months ago). Lame.

Anyway, you think it's OK to install these or will the pitting cause trouble?

if it aint deep and if it's small pitting I'd say you'll be allright.

It'd probably "wear" out in 100 miles and you'd never know they were like that

most brake surfaces tend to pit when they sit for a few weeks and the 1st couple of brake applications "clean" them right up

Buy a new drum and return the old one under the warranty of the new one.

problem solved.

Otherwise I can see the shoes wearing much faster then normal.
