I've got a Chrysler Grand Voyager 2002 3.3L Gas (European built) and the Electric Fault warning light on. It seems that my PCM gives out the P0601 error code. The engine works just fine, everything (milage, transmission, etc) operates as before.
The local dealer quoted me a ridiculous cost of AUD 2,400 (USD 2,200) for replacing the part. Talk about rip-off here...

The code has been labeled as Memory Checksum Error in some sources. This can basically be caused by the software getting messed up or a physical component failure (a damaged chip, etc).
I'd like to start with quicker and cheaper solutions, i.e. with reflashing the module in case this just is a software issue. Is this possible?
The module has been upgraded before to 04748431AC. I think the original module P/N has been 04745860 (unsure of the second to last digit as it's rather hard to read without removing the PCM).

Another option would be to procure a new module (possibly from the States) and get it flashed & installed here. Any recommendations on resalers (esp. Chrysler original parts)?

In one of the discussion threads I was a note "If your van has under 70,000 miles the PCM may be covered under an emissions warranty.". Does anyone know if there are any TSB's related to 2002 Caravans / Voyagers which I could check regarding my PCM?

There are a variety of Engine (PCM) modules that are flash reprogrammable. Suggestions that are somewhat unique to each type will have comments. Prior to reprogramming a PCM, retrieve the module information and module type using your DRBII I®. PCM information is used by many modules. Be sure to check DIG's before and after performing all flash reprogramming event.

The PCM can be reprogrammed. I would keep an eye on ebay for the right pcm. Or check the salvage yards. WWW.car-part.com is a good place. Shipping from the states is going to be expensive tho.

I don't know if a flash will fix your problem-- maybe it's worth a try if you can get a dealer or other shop with a DRBIII to do it. If you have the gray key with the chip in it (Sentry Key), you can't simply pop a new PCM in and go on your way-- it would need to be programmed by a shop with a DRBIII. I doubt they would do that to put a used PCM in your vehicle though.

As for the warranty-- in the United States there is a minimum warranty of, I think 8 years, 80,000 miles on the PCM. This is required by US law and I don't know if you have something similar.

You should see if there's a good independent shop in your area that has the DRBIII and can do this stuff. They may give you a much better deal.

Thanks to XDGT and Rick!

Just a noobie question, XDGT, what is a DIG?
And Rick, where could I verify this 8 yr warranty on PCMs? This could be a good argument with the dealer (why should the local representation give inferior warranties, you know...).

The warranty is referenced in the warranty book that comes with our vehicles-- but like I said, it is what is required by U.S. federal law as part of the emissions legislation. The PCM is considered an emissions component. I don't think they'll offer that to anyone if they don't have to.

Rick99 is right on the money about this being a Fed requirement.
