I just purchased a use 96 caravan se and when I drove it last night, it has no dash lights nor does the radio or heater controls illuminate. All the gauges function properly and I can turn the inside lights on with the dimmer switch. All the idiot lights come one when you start the van as well. I searched but found nothing like this. I am having one other weird issue. The radio only plays to the rear speakers. There is no sound from the dash or door speakers. I check the fuse box under the hood and nothing seems to be blown. I didn't see one under the dash though. Please help.

Ok, all fuses are still good even in the interior fuse box. I also replaced the headlight switch to no avail. I still don't have any dash/console lights. Every gauge and idiot light works, but no illumination of any kind. Please help. I've read something about the cluster control module and some solder stuff going wrong and something about a relay called IOD, but the engine relay box has nothing labeled IOD.

Try pulling the IOD fuse for 5 minutes located in the front engine fuse box. If that doesn't work then try slapping the dash top above the gauges. If you get them to work after a slap or two then you will have to do the solder fix.

ok, tried the IOD fuse and no luck. I tried to smack the dash and no luck also. I'm thinking BCM at this point. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Did you turn on the dash light switch? It's above your left knee. Turn it up and the dash lights turn on after a single click.

It's right next to your headlight knob.

Turning on the headlights don't turn on the dash lights.

Let us know if it works.

I've tried turning the dimmer switch to all the clicks and no luck. I even bought a new headlight switch thinking the dimmer switch was bad, but no luck. Any other options? I don't have any other issues or symptons to make me think the BCM is bad.

Before I replaced the BCM, I would check the Panel Lamp Driver circuit that comes off the BCM to see if it is really the BCM or some grounding or open circuit problem.

I would start at the radio and heater and control panel and see if the Panel Lamp Driver line is working at these locations. Then I would work back to the BCM.
The P05 connector line 5 , orange wire appears to be the wire for the Panel. A source with wiring diagrams like alldata or others might help.

The ground for the front panel speakers is on the same connector as the Panel Lamp Driver for the radio and maybe something with this connector is not right which might explain the unusual problem with both speakers and Lamps.

Ok, I've got a major update. I have dash lights now. I noticed a blown fuse under the dash for right parking lights. I replaced it and it blew again, but the dash lights came on for a split second. So, I pulled the passenger front turn signal and the socket was burned up so I disconnected it and replaced the fuse and we now have dash lights. So, the only remainign issue is the front channel speakers of the radio. I tried another radio and same thing, no front sound, not even a buzzing from blown speakers. Everything else with the radio works. What could cause this? any suggestions about where to start? Can someone link me to the wiring diagram from the radio out to the speakers please.
