What is the proper procedure to adjust the kickdown rod on a 727?? Pics of the linkage would help.

now is the lever supposed to be locked in place in the carb linkage, or allowed to "float" forward and backward? How much should I adjust the rod?

I adjust it with the carb at hot idle and the kickdown linkage all the way forward and make the slot just slightly longer (maybe 0.050" preload) so the kickdown rod is just a tiny bit pushed back by the throttle stud.

For what it's worth, here are the two pages from my Haynes manual..

The rod should float on the carb linkage. There should be a spring that holds it tight to the throttle lever. Really you just adjust it up til it shifts like you want it to. Screwing the slotted end out makes it shift higher.

Cool, Thanks! Those are the pics I was looking for. I just wanted to make sure I had it right.

I used a spacer between my throttle rod and the linkage
