Has anyone replaced their filter as a normal maintenance item? Alldata shows that you have to lower the gas tank to remove and replace the filter from the tank and I'm not sure I want to go through this if it isn't needed.

If it is anything like my 98 then the tank should lower with ease. All my bolts and straps and things looked brand new except for the bolt holding the filter. It was all rusty but still came loose with a good shot of PB Blaster.
Yours is in tank. Look at your straps and bolts. If they look in good shape like mine did then just run your tank almost empty just for ease and use a regular jack with a piece of plywood on it to support the tank as you drop it. You only have to drop it 6" they say.
