Anybody every adjust the length of the pushrod that connects the brake pedal to the master cylinder plunger?
There's a sentence or two about this in the FSM, saying how there should be 1/16 " freeplay at the pedal. I'm about to install a brand new m.c. and was wondering about making this adjustment (my brake pedal, while pretty firm, isn't as high as I like).
I redid the front brakes last year and just redid the rear this weekend.
If anyone's made this adjustment, please fill me in on details. It looks like there's a nut on the pushrod somewhere maybe? I presume you have to remove the m.c. each time you want to make an adjustment?
My truck has the power brake booster, by the way.
Thanks.

never messed with that, but I'm of the opinion, if it ain't broke.....
but then again brake pedal height I'm not sure if it can be adjusted - unless you get a longer rod that attaches to it, but not sure if the physical limitation of the swing on the pedal would allow it to be pulled up more.
Might go have a look/see tonight on my truck - eventually I'm pulling out my pedal and will replace with the clutch/break assembly for the 4 speed conversion - might as well get familiar with it!

With power brakes there is an adjuster on the MC side of the booster. This is set so there is a bit of play, otherwise it can engage the booster if to long.... At least this is how a van is set-up.
If the pedal has an adjustable rod, there will be limitations on how much it can be changed.

I just pulled the m.c. and see exactly where the adjustment happens--looks like near the tip of the pushrod is a hex that you fit a wrench on, and then that portion of the pushrod is threaded into another piece that extends in through the booster.
Speaking of the booster--how can you tell if a booster is operating correctly or needs attention?

I have never adjusted the pushrod that extends into the master cylinder. If you do change this don't forget to check the brake light switch adjustment.
If your pedal is in the upper 1/3 to of the travel I would consider it normal.
As for the booster function, do the following.
1. Pump the pedal to release any stored vaccumn, then with brakes applied start the engine and the vacumn should lower the pedal. This tests the booster for function.
2. Turn off engine with the brakes off then apply them. They should feel asissted. If not the booster or vacumn check valve is leaking.
