I need to remove the wipers on a 1978 D100 to remove the cowl grill. Do they just pull off or is there a trick to it?

Thanks

They just pull off if your lucky, try to pull it straight up. Your best to perhaps get a screwdriver and pry it against your finger...

Let me guess, your wiper/s got disconnected/ broke from the motor or arm under the cowl? Been there done that... in a rain storm... on the highway... on the way to work in the morning...

What he said....

I'll also recommend PB Blaster too....will help loosen up the "grip".

Be careful if you have to pry, paint can get damaged, I'd recommend putting some cloth/ rag down. once it comes off - I'd apply some grease on the knob before you put it back on (for future removals). some arms have a locking tang on the bottom - so check that before you pry.

Yeah, as Delray says, there is probably a locking tang on the bottom of the arm where it attaches to the stud. SUPPOSEDLY when you lift the arm all the way up, it's supposed to release this tang, but when things have been put together for 30 years... Doesn't always happen. You may need something like a big dental pick (Automotive style) where you can work that tang so the arm will come loose.
But yes, you need to be careful prying it off, so you don't (If you care) damage the paint on the cowling. They actually make a special tool for this, but I've always used a couple of big screwdrivers with a rag underneath, to pry the arm off...

And yes, some grease or anti-sieze on the stud is VERY helpful for the next time you may need to remove them ;)
