Can you put a big block 727 bellhousing on a 518? If ya could it sure would make a 440 more appealing for a "cruiser" truck anyway

I read in one of the Mopar rags that they managed to mate a 518 to a 440, can't remember wheat the did - mighta cut the bellhousing and weld it or had a converting plate setup. I'll see if I can find that article.

Other things that had to be done is a new tans crossmember.

below is a good site on the conversion into the older vehicles.

Keisler makes a big block AOD I believe. Better have a strong wallet though ;)

I would imagine a competent transmission shop could mount a big block bellhousing to an A518. My buddy has a couple big-block powered A-100 vans. He had his local shop do this to the transmissions he used.

Ultrabell lists an adapter for BB to 518 but the links don't make sense. Might have to e-mail them and ask.

Check here.......

....and here's a link to another guy that has done it, with lots of pictures.

The bellhousing isn't removable from the 518 transmission, or others for that matter. Look near the end of the Dodge parts at www.transmissioncenter.net
You will find they have an adaptor plate to mount a smallblock transmission behind a big-block.
