Was at one of the pick'n'pulls around here and noticed it had a nice black dash pad/glovebox but it was the earlier style, will it fit into my '79?

Can't seem to find a decent '75+ black dash/door panels at any of the yards I've been to.

I think it's out of a '73 - if it fits I can snag it for pretty cheap (looks like the pics below). The glovebox looks the same if I'm not mistaken.

If that pad'll fit, will my cluster work (appears to be the same)?

Thanks!

(Note: pics borrowed from an ended eBay auction)

If you wannna go that route (Personally I like the 75'-80' much better), you'll need to get the dash pad, glove box door (They are close, but not quite) the instrument bezel, and I THINK the housing the gauge cluster fits into. Pre-75' was metal vs. post 75' when it was plastic. I can't swear on it, but I think there are some differences, so that everything will bolt up correctly. The gauges themselves are the same, and the placement of them is the same.

If you pull the dash pad from the older rig, be very gentle and patient. There are plastic studs that go through the holes in the metal it all connects too, and you can bust those plastic studs VERY easy. It's just speed-nuts on the plastic studs, but they've been on there for 30+ years. And a couple of them are a REAL PITA to get too... Over by the fusebox... 9/16", if I remember...
A deep socket with a stubby ratchet, and a cheapo combo wrench you don't mind cutting in half, makes it eaiser. And be prepaired to cut your hands all up...

(You can guess I've done this a few times, eh? :D :D :D )

The pics look very nice though ... If nothing else, I'd grab all that stuff and sell it on ebay ;)

Well.......the pick'n'pull got a few new Dodges in since the last time I was there 2 weeks ago - and I scored a good black dash pad ('75+ style) and two black door panels. Need to find a good black glove box and two arm rests though -- all of the ones there were cracked/trashed. Also scored two mint taillights and chrome bezels! :rck:

The speed nuts came off with ease - got'm all with my portable tool set - just used a 9/16s wrench and the two 9/16s sockets on a wratchet. Took my time...didn't cut up my hands...and got it out real easy.

I think I got my $30 worth! ;)

I'll post some pix once they're all cleaned up.

Oh, there still was one pre-'75 black dash pad but I opted to stick with what I've got.

Wow! You got Lucky! I've been looking for DECENT black door panels for a few years now. (Not some ugly-assed color that was vinyl-dyed black)

Armrests will be hard to come by... CHEAP.... I've seen a few NOS on ebay, but you'd think they were made of solid gold, for some reason (Like $100.00 for the pair!!... YEEEESH!! JUST the PADS.....)

Cool!

You must have cheated! You wore gloves, huh?? :D :D :D

I'd say so!

I'd pull them and list them on ebay or SAVE them and list them later... I pulled a PRIMO set of gauges and dash bezel from a 71' and made $100 listing it on ebay.....

Hmmmm.... CO. isn't THAT far from WA. .... I may have to come down and look through your boneyards... :D :D :D

I might be going to a yard in Denver while I'm visiting the folks this weekend (ISO a black glove box). As of a few weeks ago it had a good black pax. door panel - I'll snag it if it's still there if you'd like.

I'm really amazed at how well these ones cleaned up (I always forget to take "before" pics of my boneyard finds). The door panels needed to be hosed off (were sitting in the bed of the truck they came off of for a while - exposed to the elements full of dirt/grime) before I could even start to apply any cleaner/conditioner.

The dash pad was pretty nasty too (looks to have had a melted candy bar on part of it) - but it's been cleaned, conditioned and polished too - you'd think they were a lot newer than they really are!

Eeeesh don't say that! Hopefully I'll get lucky in Denver this weekend - quite a few more yards to choose from than up here in northern CO.

Nope...bare handed in the beautiful 60 degree weather we had today! I got a few scratches, but nothing nearly deep enough to draw any blood -- took my time as to not injure myself or the dash pad.

What exactly constitutes "primo"? No cracks/broken posts/cleans up easily? or is there more to it? Guess I'll snap some shots of my new goodies and see what you rate them at...

The other black dash pad looked like it could clean up nice - perhaps next time I'm back there I'll pull it. There were a few other interior bits which I could have picked up as well. Hell there was a pretty good looking '75 or '76 with gold dash/door panels...but...I doubt that lovely color is in high demand (nor is the green currently in my rig - which is in pretty good shape too).

Oh and perhaps the most exciting part of the trip was less than a block from the yard was a '79 LRE with a for sale sign behind a fence. Jumped out to look at it - was rough - but had lots of potential! *sigh* someday........

It will fit, but you have to get the whole deal - gauge hood, glovebox lid, and intrument cluster w/ the plastic bezel. The cluster is made different for the two.

As I said, they're not perfect, but this isn't going to be a show truck...so they're good enough for me! ;)

And, of course, the shiny new tail lights & bezels...

To me.... 'Primo' means looking like NOS without it actually being NOS ;)
That just my own definination though....

You got some excellent parts! Good find!!!!! :rck:

I think so...was quite a bit of work to clean it all up...but as you can see it was well worth it! The guy at the counter must have been in a good mood - at first he said "Well I'll charge you for the dash pad and you can take the door panels" then was like "that's more expensive that way, so I'll charge you for a (one) door panel instead". Dash pad = $17, door panel = $11. Tail lights were $1/inch but he threw in the bezels.

I also have the refelector/bulb holder parts of the tail lights, but I'll see if I can clean mine up first before swapping the ones I pulled in.

These aren't bad there's a few stress marks (if that's what you call them) in the dash pad from the mounting posts - but they're the ones up near the windshield...a few more coats of conditioner and maybe they'll be less noticable... ;) Either way for being 30ish years old they came back to life pretty nicely!

You got some excellent parts! Good find!!!!! :rck:
Thank you sir! :rck: I even managed to not lose any of the speed nuts...hopefully I'll be able to find a glovebox & arm rests in Denver this weekend - fingers crossed!

Damn I wish there were some of that around here. You got one hell of a deal on those tail light themselves. I of course need door panels as well.

I think I just happened to be at the right yard at the right time...as I haven't seen any decent tail lights to date except for the ones I snagged.

Keep in mind I've also travelled from Cheyenne, WY to the south side of Denver (and anything in between) to find/hunt down old Dodge parts!
