Hi - New guy here, with a specific problem. Surfed 14 pages for an existing thread, probably on 15. My 360 van falls flat on its face if you actually press the gas pedal. There is no visible stream of gasoline when viewed down the carb, more like a vague bubbling down the walls. Should this carb have the customary squirt of gas? I've put a kit in it, and the old seal looked fine. New seal doesn't change anything. I have access to a near new replacement Holley 64-3262, but the owner tells me he bought it to clear up a stumbling problem, but it didn't. For now, I'm preventing traffic light stalls by engaging the manual choke just as the lights change - fun at first, but impractical. Before I do anything more wasteful, I'm asking "Is this one of those problems where I'm not the first rocket scientist on the scene, and is there anything I might want to know before proceeding?" Thanks, Dan Larson

Definitely sounds like a bad accelerator pump or clogged passages.

I had a '69 Dodge van that had the old Carter BBD 2bbl. carburetor on it and had a similar problem. I rebuilt it, no change. Finally I replaced the carburetor and it was fine them. After I while I yanked the 2bbl. setup off and put an Edelbrock intake and 4bbl. carburetor on.

I've put a kit in it,

Did you put the little ball bearing in the bottom of the accelerator pump well? It acts as a one way valve, allowing fuel to come in as the plunger is coming back up, but blocks the hole as the plunger is going down. Once blocked the fuel will only flow out the passages leading to the carb throat.

Check to make sure the accelerator pump linkage rod is connected to the correct slot on the pump lever for your carb. It's usually the slot furthest from the front of the engine. Also make sure the pump travel and height adjustments are correct for the carb. You should definitely see 2 strong streams of gas when you tap the accelerator if the carb is working correctly.

Even when operating the accelerator pump linkage manually, I get only a dribble. The opening at the bottom of the pump bore looks more like a flawed casting, with rough irregular shaped edges, as opposed to something neatly drilled or cast in. Sounds like I will end up with the replacement carb, and I Thank You all for 1.Being Here and 2.Helping me through a dark and fearful (two non-working carbs?)time. I'll follow up on this either way, and look forward to being more involved(became aware of this group today)with my Dodge vans.
