What is the biggest tire and wheel combo I can use? What is the widest tire?

I have a P255/60R15 on the front and rear on stock wheels. That's about as wide as the front will accept. Maybe a P255/70R15 will fit on the front as well. The rear? Well I don't know. :)

P255/60 will rub on the front with an 8" rim, P245/60-15 on an 8" rim won't on models up to '78... The fenders might be larger on the '79 up vans.
I wouldn't use stock rims as there really to narrow for the grip of a wider tire and cause the sidewalls of the tire to flex alot. I had 7" rims and went to 8" rims for this reason, and live on a winding road. My van has P255/60-15 on 8-1/2" reverse wheels at the rear because it has the narrower 8-3/4" rear axle... I could fit P295/50-15 on 10" rims at the rear due to the narrower axle and they would fit under the fenders, but my current combo works fine.

I run 245-60-15 on front w/a 8 in rim.
275-60-15 on a 10 in rim in the rear.
Ive seen 295-50 on the rears of vans and even 255-60 on the fronts, dont know if their fronts rubed or not, and dont know the off-set of the rims.

i was hoping to get 16 or 17 inch wheels.

I was going to to that also until I found most aftermarket wheels have the some backspacing (~4") which puts the outer edge to close to the fender edge. Also there aren't many tire sizes to choose from that will hold the weight of a van and payload.

So i should find a wheel with little back spacing then? Or maybe just some nice 15 inch wheels? As for the tires couldn't I get truck tires?

If you want to go with 16" wheels, sometime after 1997 Dodge vans went to a 16" wheel across the board on 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton vans. The wheelwells would more than likely be identical to your '87.

What about the bolt patter on the newer vans?

The later vans with the 5-lug wheels should still be the 5.5" pattern.

I wanted to go with 16 inch wheels as well. 17" is already too little sidewall and is starting to look a bit 'jiggy!' But less sidewall flexing in a 16" size due to a lower profile in the same overall diameter tire is appealing. It looks as though the 15" wheel/tire combo is fading out and 16" are the new standard. There are plenty of choices of 16" sizes - although maybe not as wide.
Does anyone know the bolt spacing and back spacing for a 1994 6-lug B250 van?
So glad I found this forum... so much Dodge-related knowledge in one place! A hidden treasure!

I doubt you have 6 lugs. Your probably looking at lug covers that appear like 6 lug and have the 5 on 5-1/2".
