92 B250 318 intermittent stall or missfire

92 B250 318 intermittent stall or miss-fire and occasionally hard to start.

The symptoms are while driving I get a very fast & short (less than 1 second) missfire and the battery light comes on. Then the van runs fine with normal power levels. Also, when starting (occasionally) it sometimes starts and immediately dies (< 1 sec). I've always been able to start it by attempting multiple starts. The third attempt normally works.

mileage 160 K miles

codes are 12 and 55.

where do I start troubleshooting? Electrical probably?

I'd start by replacing the ASD relay and see if that clears up the problem.

I replaced the ASD and Fuel Pump Relays and still had the problem. So I continued on and replaced the spark plugs and wires, and replaced the distributor pickup coil plate. I had previously replaced the distributor cap and rotor and ignition coil.

I hope that does it. Time will tell.
