Are there any benefits for having LSD than driving in the snow or maybe in the rain? What about just regular driving? can I expect any diference there?
I've looking at LSD's lately and liked the Detroit TrueTrac, specially because it has only gears - no clutch packs. Does anybody have it in any of their vehicles, if so is it good? I read here that to have LSD I need 3.92's. How much money are we talking here on both parts? and installed?
Thank you for your help.

Sony,
Mine just went out and I am looking at replacing it with something much better. From what I can see Detroit Tru-Trac does not make one for mine at least. I have 3.92 with an LSD. If I am missing something or you have more info please let me know. That is the way I probably am going to go then.

I was looking at auburn HP diffs and at the detroit. I talked to Dan the Fastman about it and he said use the detroit. I talked to my hotrod shop and he said they always use auburn's. Dan said the detroit works kinda funny when your driving it. Something about the way it locks and unlocks. My hot rod guy said half the time their auburns stay locked around turns. I hope that confused you more....I mean helped you..LOL

Sony,
Thanks for those links- I've already been through them, once, twice three and four times trying to make heads and tails of the whole thing! Right now my choices are down to the PowerTrax No-Slip which I am still trying to figure out whether I have to take it to a shop to have them set the gears or if I can pop it in myself. Some people & articles say you can (as does theirs) and some say that it is only true if you have an open differential- heck I dunno? and then my other choice is a Detroit Locker. If I am going to have to take it to a shop to have them install it and set the gears then I might as well go with a proven product. Even Mopar sells Detroit Lockers for our trucks so that may be the way to go. As far as Auburn goes, I was really leaning towards them until I found out that they are not re-buildable, they use clutches and they are really not much stronger than the stock unit I have in there now. I want something that is not going to fail after 40 or 50k. I will keep you posted on what I find.

Dadditruck,
As you can see I don't plan to go off-roading, mainly because I need a 4WD for that, and I don't have it (I know I would have prefered a 4WD but they didn't have any at the dealership, and I got a sweet deal on this one). It seems like you got more options than me. If a Locker fits your needs go ahead, I've heard that the Detroit it's the best out there.
Hope this link helps you out.

Hello,
To change from a stock LSD to a PowerTrax No-Slip, you will have to replace the carrier as the No Slip will not drop-in the LSD carrier. When the new carrier and goodies are bolted up, check the backlash. If you are lucky to get stock specs, it should be OK, however, it not, you will have to set the backlash properly.
