Hey guys hows it going im new here. I just bought a 94 2500 Continetal Conversion Van the other day with the 318 and 4 speed overdrive. Loving it so far, ive always wanted a van and finnaly pulled the trigger :D
I want to get a 2" hitch so I can carry my dirt bike and I called up U-Haul and they said that since I have the "step bumper" which I think I do, that they do not make hitches for my van
Does anyone know if this is true or if there are hitches made for my van? Thanks alot

Check with the local RV Dealer, They can even put a brake controller on too. Also, check here.

I doupt a step bumper will get in the way of a frame mounted receiver hitch.
Good luck with the van.

My '94 had a hitch on it when I bought it so yes you can get a hitch for your van. I don't however have a step-type rear bumper. There is also a socket in the rear wiring harness to accept the trailer light kit.

You could try one of these.

I would also invest in a transmission cooler and shift kit to increase the durabilty of the transmission.

You could try one of these.
Cool thanks, I am not going to be towing with the receiver just using it to take my Dirt Bike with me on a Motorcycle hitch carrier. My concern is that all together there is going to be about 300 lbs on the back and its going to stick out kinda far from the bumper so there will be alot of leverage. Do you think one of these can hold up to all that leverage?

Most of those hitches have a 500 lb. tongue weight. So holding 300 lbs. shouldn't be a problem. Assuming your step bumper mounts are in good shape.

I took a look at my rear bumper and I dont see any mounting holes and the bumper is pretty hollow I dont see how one of these step bumper hitches would mount? Any help. How can I post a picture so you can see what im talking about? I just called the local dodge dealer and they said they dont make a hitch for my van, hmm this is not looking good. Thanks for your help so far.

I dont think u want a step bumper hitch, u want a receiver hitch, the type that mounts to the frame of the van.
A step bumper hitch will only have a tow capacity of 2000lbs max, and a tounge weight rating of 200lbs, so it will not hold your 300lb bike.
A receiver hitch will hold the weight u need.
I find it really hard to believe they do not make a hitch for your van. Go to a camper/RV dealer for the hitch. I have a hitch on my 93, and I dont think the rear end of your 94 can me much different then my 93.
Good luck, keep us posted.

I ended up going to eckharts in los angeles and they made me a custom really nice 10,000 lb hitch with a 1000 lb tounge weight so I should be good to go. Alot of custom work was involved to make it fit but it turned out really clean. Was $300 installed. I would recomend them to anyone else looking a hitch. Thanks for your help everyone.

Thats not a bad deal, Im still amazed that nobody had a stock hitch for a 94 van, unless the step bumper being in the way was the problem?
Either way, glad u got r done.

Most class III hitches are rated at 5000lbs, 500lbs tongue capacity. (Some are rated less) They have the a 2" square receiver.
By using a weight distributing hitch rather than a ball you can double the load on most hitches... It takes the place of the adaptor and ball... trailer brakes are a must for this type of load.

On my 94 Coachman Van ( Dodge 350 ) I had one installed and t was no big deal. I did have an RV shop install it since they were familiar with the grey water tank that was in the way. No big deal for them; costs me $195.00 IIRC.
