Just wondering what everyone thinks of the 2009 Ram. Personally, I think it looks like Dodge may have slept with Toyota for the outside, and Ford for the inside. Sure it has some sharp features, cutout for the duel exhaust in the bumper, storage in the side of the box....umm....ya...that's it, but its not looking like a beefy truck! And the interior just looks boring.
Just my thoughts, not looking to start anything, but would like to hear what other think...maybe if they did something cool with the interior, that would help.....

I'm not too fond of what they did with the inside but the outside is kind of appealing. The inside does really look like if came from a ford, too luxurious for my taste. I like the new front end with the slight overhang look. It gives it a much more aggressive look than just having the large front end. It reminds me of the front of a ford mustang.

I like the outside. The storage in the bow is a great idea. I hope they do something with their headlights. A friend just bought a 2008 Sierra and the headlights on it are way better than mine. I think the Sierra's low and hi stay on when in high beam.

I like it. I think the looks are a great improvement over the 06-08. The front end is the best look yet in all the new designs (ford, gm, toy) and the overall body changes I think will work well. The interior looks to be the best out there for a truck but until somebody gets their hands on it I don't know how well it will work. The interior is like the ford's (console shifter) but simpler and less "busy". I tend to notice the differences more then the similarities.

Nobody asked us so it seems it doesn't matter if we like it or not, thats what we are getting. I do believe they have done a good job and the Ram should compete well with the competition. As a HD guy seems we have another year to wait & see.

Overall, I like it. I love the interiour, i think it is a big improvement from previous generations (especially my truck!), and the exteriour looks OK, I am not too fond of it. I do like the side box pockets since you can put crap in them and lock them. I also love the idea of a 1500 diesel that will get 25mpg. I would almost buy one for that reason alone.
Just what I think.

I'm not too fond of what they did with the inside...........too luxurious for my taste......That's just the Laramie. I looked at a truck, when I bought my '07, that had the center console that split between the seats. I think the option is "bucket seats". Anyway. Even on the '07, the solid console that goes all the way up to the dash, makes it feel crowded, and all the stuff with it seemed pompous. Just get a SLT, SXT, etc for the '09, and the interior will be fine.
As for the look of the '09 Rams. I love it. I joked about it before, but I'm seriously thinking about talking my wife into trading her '03 Dakota for one. IMO, that's the best change since the 2nd gen came out. Not that I dislike the look of the 3rd gen, I'm just saying I like the look of the '09 even more.

I like the new crew cabs a lot. I am not wild about the 09 QC at all, the proportions just seem out of wack. I would really like to see more pics of the Regular cabs, long or short box models. All I have seen is the few pics taken outside Cobo hall, they were pics of a black reg cab long bed. I am suprised the black truck didn't show up at some other shows and more pics make it to the net. I have yet to see any interior shots of that truck.
Overall I really like what they did with the interior. The outside, I like the 09' CC and the RC but not the QC. In general, I like the GEN 1s exterior looks the best, then the GEN 2 up through 05 is a tossup for 2nd best with the 09', even though I have an 08 QC I still don't like the headlights or the tail lights in the GEN 3 06-08'.

Hopefully the quad cab is as large as the mega is/was. I think the storage boxes are a good idea but I think it will be the main point for rust to start. Chevy was the only one to build storage in a location that would not rust, in the plastic cladding on the Avalanche. Also, I hoping they offer the 6.1 Hemi as an option, Toyota still wins the HP war amongst the big three.

The bed rails look pretty wide on the trucks with the bed boxes. Does anyone know how much that takes away from the inside width of the bed?
Are the wheel wells showing inside the bed or is the inner wall of the bed boxes flush with the wheel wells? Is the inside width of the bed approximately only 50" the entire length and no wheel wells showing?
TheBossHEMI
03-24-2008, 12:16 PM
The inside of the bed with the rail box's (an option only, I've heard it's not going to be a "standard" item, not even on the Laramie, just an option) does not show the wheel well's at all. Yet I was told by a Dodge rep at the Chicago auto show that they specifically kept in mind one that would carry 4'x8' sheets of... well whatever you wanted. Therefore the width between is just over 4' so that problem won't be an issue.

I like it and I think it's a step up from the old RAM in a lot of ways.
I pretty much like everything except the following.
Using the old 5 speed tranny and the towing and payload specs. I think they have a winner hands down in all categories except these two. I know the old 5 speed is tried, tested, and true, but I really would have liked to have seen a true 5 speed tranny (not geared like a 4 speed) or a 6 speed. And only a slight increase in the towing and payload categories. Dodge is right by not competing with stupidly high towing numbers for a half ton but I would have expected them to increase it slightly...
Right now, my 5.7L Quad Cab 4x2 can tow 8750lbs and have a payload of 1620 lbs. I would have loved to see those increased to about 9200-9500 lbs and 2000 lbs respectively. I doubt I would ever try to tow that much on a regular basis but it would make me more comfortable towing some of the "half-ton towable" 5th-wheels I'm looking at buying. Some of the pin weights and fully loaded weights on those trailers almost pushes them beyond my specs.
Is there any reason that Dodge couldn't with some modifications just use their current heavy duty 6 speed for all model trucks, diesel or gas? Just wondering. I'm sure it would save a ton of money on their end only having one decent transmission.

Go for the 09. They really upgraded the Laramie. Remember the Hemi has more power, more torque, with better gas mileage. So you save money in gas plus look better doing it. They both tow the same but the 09 will has a more comfortable ride. From what i heard it will still have the lifetime warranty. I'm going to see if the PowerWagon will be offered in a Diesel. I have an 06. I promise you there is nothing better..... The winch, Hahahahaha, we and a bunch of friends have a bunch of memories. Got me and everyone else out of a few situations. The sway bar disconnect makes the rocky mountains not feel so rocky. And with the rear Five-link suspension, boy i cant wait. But thats if they come in a diesel. The down fall about the PowerWagon is the gas mileage. It's based on the 2500 so it's heavy, worst enemy for a gas engine when it comes to gas milage. I get 10-15. In 07 they came out with a 5-speed but that didn't help much. I have a 4. Help out future sells, by getting something way better. Leave the 08 behind. Remember, "ITS A NEW DAY".

No opinion, no nothin. Three paragraphes of nothing. I remember like 3 years ago they had a competition on who had the best off-road pickup. They included everyone but the PowerWagon. The Nissan NO FEAR edition got first place. Bull__it. They would rather make room for the sponsors then what they base their magazine on. Oh, and they gave the Toyota the truck of the year. The same truck Chevy beat last year. If nothing changes, shouldn't the result stay the same?

Don't you think the new Rams body style like the Dodge Ram SRT10? Look at the bumper and how the truck looks from behind. Its look like the same body kit.

On the home page of dodge talk, theres an advertisement for the 2009 Ram. theres a blue one in the front, and a tannish one in the back with a side view. Is anyone else seeing a tannish F-150 instead of a dodge 1500 in the back?
I think its the two tone sides and wheel wells that are making it look like it to me. reminds me of a lariat

There has been several mentioned how the painted fender brows on the new 2 tone Rams are similar to the way ford also uses painted fender brows on there 2 tones. However when 2 tones were all rage back in the 80s Ford and GM both had two tones down the certer of the sides of the trucks. To me, that didn't really make me mistake a Ford for a Chevy, or a chevy for a FORD. Same deal now, I am not really seeing a ford when I look at the new dodges, just a nice looking dodge with a 2 tone paint job to me anyway.

I voted Meh!.
I'm not sure about it yet. I'm a new MegaCab owner and the only reason I bought the MegaCab this year is becuase they were shortening it to creat the Crew Cab next year. I wanted the room and interior and wasn't willing to give that up. The Mega has enough room for my 6'2" frame to fit comfrotably behind the wheel and behind the drivers seat without having to set things to the max. If the possibillity that the CrewCab had the same general roominess as the MegaCab, I would ahve waited until next year to buy.

Its ok I guess, but I prefer the sleek look like the Gen II rams.

I like it but I think they should have taken a few more "chances" on the exterior design like they did in 94. That bold move put Dodge trucks on the map, and it seems as if they forgot that.

And thats why I own one. From the minute they produced the bold new look I was on a quest to have one. 7 years later my dream came true!

My favorite Ram is the '07, that's why I bought one....the exterior of the '09 is growing on me (honestly,I wasn't a huge fan at first) and I would have to go with a sport that two tone is killing me. I hate to admit it but I have ridden in a few newer model F-150's and with the interior of the '09, Dodge has taken a page from Ford. Now if the local dealership gave me the keys to an '09 in my color...I would def. take it!

Okay, first let me say that I love the looks of the 09. I do wish they would have kept the electric bluw color from last year though.
Is it just me or did they take a cue from the new mustang (forward leaning headlights, dual exhaust molded into the bottom of the rear bumper)? I think it is a good look, just a very evident styling rip off.
AGAIN, I LIKE THE LOOK, not trying to start anything (As a matter of fact my sport QC should be here Monday). No electric blue so I went with sunburst orange.

Had a new Tonneau installed and ordered vent visors. Also have tickled the loud pedal enuff to know, the 390 HP is pretty awsum.I love the interior and the 10 way power seat fits me like a glove. The free Sirrus radio is very nice and the 9 speaker Alpine system is great. I was an QA Engineer for 42 years and I pay great attention to fit and finish + crawlin under and making sure everything is up to snuff. So far the only complaint I have is the MPG..its 15.5 - 17 on cruise, but when I slap stick the gear lever from 1 thru 5 then D it really sucks up the fuel, but after all its an almost 6000 lb truck with 390 HP and the Hemi gets it done my friends. I waffled as I wanted an Challenger, but, even being 68 years old,I still manage a few speedin tickets a year despite radar detectors and a fine tuned brain after alluding most cops for 53 years.I loved my 62 383 343 HP Polaris500,my 67 GTX,my 70 6 pack, my 240 Z's and several Porsches and many drag cars thru all these years, but,I have to hand it to the design Engineers as this truck meets or exceeds my expectations. Thanks Detriot keep around, obama cant get us all !

I traded my 02 Dakota 4.7 club cab with 90K on the clock. They paid off my $4k loan, took 10K off the $42k 09 and got me 5% loan for 72 months. One thing, this was an demonstrator with 5800 miles, but, its so new and slick...I just melted! Any idea how I get to ask about an anomally in reguards to MPG readout ? I left my 09 idle for about 10 min getting things to go.When I glanced down 7.7 MPG ! Then as i travelled about 90 miles,it never went over 14.5.I admit,Im climbing steep hills(around 1200 ft high) and I use the loud pedal to pass several roadtoads. Then I stopped and filled up 15 gal of 89 Octane as i had been using 87 because all my hemi owner friends said its a waste. The next 7 miles home, with the cruise set at 62,the mileage keep clicking up all the way to 19MPG ! I called my pal and he says his 06 hemi 2500 has done that, then dropped back to around 15 ?Any ideas ?

I love the 4th Gen models!! They are sweet looking, I test drove a laramie model before I left to Kuwait and I have to admit, it was a bad idea. It's been 3 months so far here in Kuwait and I still want that truck!
3 months to go and I will be looking into my new Ram, hopefully they still have great deals out there! Looking into purchasing one in Dallas!
Any idea what dealership in Dallas has great deals by Aug 09 time frame???

and had a new Ram all setup, what a neat way to break it in driving to Texas from here. Only takes about 20 hours.I have made it from here to Houston several times and ave. is 20. I can set you up as i have a super dealer, but,if you insist on Dallas,I may have a way to help there too. Only thing is,I have an operation pending, but I should be 100% back by june. I am ex-Navy 58-62 and was in Cuban missle mess. What ever you decide, those 390 HP hemis are the tits.Even my little ole wife loves to kick it down a gear or 2 and hammer it.Stay safe. heminut

I just picked up a SLT 1500 Crew with Hemi, 20" wheels and center console for $26,500 at Dallas Dodge. I got the Invoice from them when I was doing the financing at my credit union and noticed they sold it to me for about $3000 under invoice. :rck:

almost any new or used car/trucks especially Mopars. This dealer has been doing super deals for years.Every single person that works there has an proffesional attitude. Besides, once you buy one,any dealer can service or perform "action" items. The last thing Chrysler is going to do now is let someone have a bad deal.I still cant believe my truck..I absolutely LOVE it !Let me know if yer interested in a new or used unit.Dealers such as this are rare as an honest polotico these days !
