Sorry to barge in like this, but I figured this would be a decent place to look for advice on a strange problem I've been having with my 95 Neon Sport.

Whenever it has rained heavily and I drive through a large puddle (you know, the sort that sprays water in several feet in either direction), the Check Engine light comes on. The first time it happened I was rather alarmed, but within a few days, before I had time to take the car to the garage, the light went off again. It happened a few more times, and I thought nothing of it. However, several weeks ago it happened again, and the light has not gone off. I thought that perhaps this has something to do with the exceptionally cold weather we've been having, but honestly I haven't got a clue.

The car doesn't seem to be running any differently than before, but that light is constantly nagging me.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or at the very least, do you know what causes it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You might want to check your fuses. I went through a puddle and blew the fuse to my fans and my engine light came on.. so your fuses might be getting wet and then drying out.

I've also found that Gen 1 neons *95-99* Need a lot of Battery maintainance.. (Frequent cleaning of the cables and terminals)

Do a on-off-on-off-on with the ignition. Don't start the car but then count the flashes with the check engine light.

It's probably a code 21. Which is a bad Oxygen sensor. Since that's the main engine code that is located below the car.

You know I tried that trick when mine did it and the mechanic told me to try that to see if was the Oxygen sensor.. Like I said it ended up being a blown fuse to my cooling fan.. Cause once the fuse was fixed the problem went away.. But try the code trick first to see if it is the sensor
