Lower gas mileage, I believe the 20's add a bit more weight,.. you would benefit more over anything by getting rid of the 3.55 gears and getting 4.56's

i had 20's on my 07 with 3.92's, traded to the 17's. gained about 2mpg feels quicker off the line and most importantly for me, i got back the 1k pounds i lost with the 20's.

I called Dodge Motor Corp. today and they told me that my '04 Sport with 20's will tow 8900. I have 392's and 5.7 Hemi. I tow a 19 foot that is 3400 dry with a max of 7500. Tows great and I get around 10 mpg going from Sac to Coast here in California. With the 20's and the "Power Wire" I get 14 City and 24 High. Give or take for the lead foot driving that rarely happens!!

Ive got an 08 1500 quad cab 5.7 with 20s pull a 16ft box trailer fully loaded about 6000lbs get about 10mpg no problem pulling it cant tell its back there helped a friend move a 32ft 1980 camper not sure how much it weighed but it pulled it verry well despite every body blinking there lights at me could have benefited from a sway bar my truck is stock love it the only thing i dont like about it is the 20in wheels dont want to have to pay for the tires when theese wear out. does any body know if a sway barwill help stop the front tires from wearing funny?

I went from 17s to 20s and lost about 2mpg but the truck seems to handle alot better. And when I install my E-fan I should get back my 2mpg.... I dont do any towing though...

i am finding out if i switch to 20 s i can loose up to 1000 lbs of towing weight

so i may have to keep the 17 s i have or change the gearing

Yes, less sidewall for towing

How does the side wall make you loose towing capacity?

In 2006 Dodge changed the 20inch rims and there is no longer a differece between towing with the 17inch or 20 inch wheels. Trailer life has a difference listed but not Dodge. Here is the link; http://www-5.dodge.com/towing5/D/vehicle_to_weight.jsp If you change the year to 2005 or older there is a differnce, but for 06 there isn't.

Ya the only thing I see is that if you go from 2006 9100lbs MAX TRAILER weight, to 2005 13,800 MAX TRAILER weight.,.. both for 1500's.

I Do See A Difference In The 05 And The 06 But I Do Not See Anything About 17 Virsa 20 Even In The Formulas

Don't worry. If you get 20" wheels you will only notice a slight change in mileage and starting/stopping power. Your truck should be able to tow up to 7900 pounds with the 20's (based on the 8900 pounds minus the 1000 pounds for 20's directly from talking with Chrysler).

Now if you take your 3700 pound camper fill all of the fresh/grey/black tanks to full and add food and clothing etc, you will never come close to the 7900 pound limit. I tow with my Ram all the time (up to 9000 pounds), and it tows hard. I even tow with my Aspen with 22's which I brought up in another thread on here. It pulls 8000 pounds like a champ!

If you get concerned about it, there are some things you can do to increase the driveability while towing;

-drilled or slotted rotors, hi-po pads
-hi-po oils and lubricants like Mobil 1 or Royal Purple on your next fluid changes (yes they actually work)
-intake (you have a K&N) and exhaust
-E-fan
-a programmer might also be good idea at some point

Other simple towing tips would be the standard ones such as always empty your fresh water, grey water and black water tanks before hitting the road. Buy food once you get to your destination if possible. I found that once I got to a site and disconnected the trailer, there was almost always a grocery store within a 10 minute drive at most.

thanks for the info on the tanks i only put 5 gal in the black water to help keep it clean never tow with anything in tank. sopping is always done at desination that way we can get something there to take out

i know gets away fromt he thread sorry i may have to look into the 20 wheels another great mod

thanks for the info

You have to go throught and pick your options for your truck. For 2006 there are only 2 tow ratings according to your Axle ratio. For 05 thre are 4. It doesn't say it but I am assuming that it's because of the 20" rims.
