I have a 74 Power Wagon Short wheelbase 4x4. It had a 318 and granny four speed, which I already pulled out. That is now for sale. I am putting a 440 and 727 in it. Here is the kicker. The BB came out of a 76 van type motor home. My problem is that I can't seem to get the motor mounts and tranny mount to all line up at the same time. When I get the engine in fairly straight, the tail shaft of the tranny is pointing towards the right rear wheel. Also it seems that the motor mount brackets on the BB seem to have a different pitch or angle than the mounts on my frame. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You'll probably need to get a set of BB pickup type mount brackets. Vans and pickups are different beasts and have different engine cradles. This may be your dilema.

Try these guys for the brackets. I know they sell a complete kit, but they may have only the brackets.
BTW, if you go this route and it works for you, I'd like to buy the BB van brackets if you dont' want them.

On smallblocks, the slots in the motor mount brackets for vans are offset different. I ran into this when putting the engine out of my dad's '85 van into my '72. They look exactly alike, and you can get one side on but not the other. Big blocks are probably the same, I would assume, you'll have to swap to truck brackets.

Thanks guys, I will check in to that. Anything that is left over when I am done is for sale. Including the very nice 318/grannny 4 speed. It has headers and an Edelbrock carb sitting on an Aluminum intake. If anybody needs this stuff let me know. The van did not make it though. I got impatient and ripped the front of it off with my tractor.

Make sure to change the water pump on it. I think the RVs had different water pumps that flowed in the opposite direction. Might want to check that out.

I plan on using the radiator out of the rv. Do you think that will make it ok if that is the case?

Oh I wish I would have thought of youtube at the time. I am working on it out in the woods. My recoil on my generator broke after getting most of it cut off with a saws all and then when I finally got it going again I broke the blade. So after this I got so pissed off that I hooked on to it with my little John Deere MT and went to pulling. Well, then while I was yanking some how it got bumped out of park and the whole RV started chasing me down the hill. It ran over my generator and then slammed in to a tree. I tell you what that puckered my *******. Yes I wish it would have been recorded. But I can post some pics of the aftermath. Maybe ya'll will enjoy it. I wish I had a nice concrete floor and heated garage to work in but unfortunately I am a true shade tree mechanic.

I don't know why I keep saying 76. I think the title says 78 though. I didn't think they used 440s in 79. I am probably wrong though. It was the easiest way without many tools and the convenience of electric. I really wanted to salvage what I could and ebay it. But you are welcome to what you could use.

Well I finally got my engine mount brackets and installed them. My 440 is now officially mounted in my truck. Now I have found out that the exhaust manifolds won't fit and the radiator is too big. So now I have to buy more parts. If anyone is in need of a van or rv 4 core radiator I've got one for sale or trade.
