Ok I am about to start fixing up the old truck. Thought I would take some before pics. I went on a little shopping spree last week and got a pile of parts:
true dual exhaust
Cherry bomb turbo mufflers ( hey only 25 apiece)
some of the patch panels
plugs/wires
cap/rotor
radiator hoses
belt(only 1 on this truck)
This will be my first time doing bodywork so I ampretty excited to learn. The goal of this will be to make the truck daily driveable if I want to, and keep it as low dollar as I can. Need to buy some new tires and some paint still.

Looks good! :)
Take your time and every thing will turn out well. I think it's fun to work on these old trucks and it's can be a learning experience.

Ahhh..... Ain't nuthin' like having more new parts than you have time to work with!! :D
Hey!! Where's all the SNOW?? :D :D

remember if you are doing the body panels yourself to leave enough material to spot weld the new panels in and reduce heat so you do not warp the panels....take your time as Buck says and all will go well....just don't think you will get it done in a weekend.

Thanks for the tips guys.
bherder - yeah, and the extreme 1/2 inch of snow melted :D
speed dragon - it is scary at how hard I thought of doing that. I actually saw one on ebay a couple weeks ago, but it was done pretty w/t style.

I actually thought about that too :D Execpt I was gonna have the stars n' bar go from corner to corner and not just on the cab...
But just remember WACO, where Speed lives, you can get away with that... Where you live, you'd probably make it about two blocks before you were arrested for having a 'Hate Truck' .. :D :D :D

Yeah the new wheel-arches will be niiiiice.....
Are you going to do it yourself?
As Diver says (And having learned the hard way myself) spot-weld them into place and MIG weld them on in various, different spots (And let things cool down) so as not to warp the metal.

I actually have the E, I ripped it off when it was sagging so it would fall off on the way home and be gone.
thanks for all the tips on bodywork guys, I am really going to take my time, I know that even 1/4 inch steel warps really easily!
Well I had a few hours this weekend to start the project. Can't wait to hear the new exhaust so I started with that. Cut the old pipe off just after the Y-pipe to free up some room. Torched off the engine just for a minute to see how it sounded like that - it was bad ass! Need to finish removing the pipes from the manifolds, those bolts are being a PITA!

-UPDATE-
Talk about a hillbilly operation, I started taking the old exhaust off last weekend and got about to the y-pipe. Well I finally had enough of freezing my baggets off (ok bherder not as cold as where you live :)), and messing around with stuck collecter bolts, so I took the truck into an exhaust shop today to let them monkey with it. It was against my rules of keeping it cheap and doing all the work myself, but I bs'd with the manager for a while about boats and he only charged me 150 dollars, very worth it IMO. It was funny drving that thing through town with an extrememly loud exhaust. :D I was a little worried though a backfire could set the oily underside of this truck on fire so I carried a fire extiguisher and a bunch of water with me. :redneck: Anyway, the Heartthrob exhaust I ordered from JC Whitney was a TOTTAL POS! Hindsight I should have just paid the shop a little more and have them make me a system. We ended up having to make the pipes dump before the wheels instead of after. No big deal, but the pipes are just not what I had hoped for. However, I couldn't be happier with the cheap Cherry Bomb Turbo mufflers, the truck sounds really good, and actually pretty quite in the cab! It definately has that old truck sound on the outside, and get loud when you stand on it. Only time will tell on their quality and longevity but so far I am very happy with them.
Even though the carb still needs work there is a definate power increase over the stock >2" y-pipe and exhaust.
I also discovered why the cab smells like gas all the time. Apparently Dodge ran their fuel tank vent line through the cab, and the one in my truck looks like swiss cheese.

Yeah, usually anything they say about their products, you divide by 5 and you'll get the truth.

Universal 'Made in China' stuff rarely is .... ;) ;) ;)
Spot weld the patches on with a mig. To avoid warping do NOT stitch weld at all. I am doing a 73 Duster right now and there are a hundred or so pictures in two threads here on the build with pics of the mig welded rear quarters and rockers.
After the carb got fuel to it (long story ended up having to get a fuel pump) the thing fired up and promptly idled like it was brand new - cold!!!! The thing runs so smooth now it is redicules! Way better throttle response and low end.
