got a 80 360 and a 90 318

Here is the deal:
I have a rebuilt 318 shortblock from a 90 van - was plannin to use for a lil hotrod project i have, but then I just grabbed this 80 d-100 that has a 360 in it. It s tired and needs a rebuild, isnt passin CA smog too well so here is what I was thnkin, but not sure:
Put the 318 in the truck along with the 360 heads, and rebuild the 360 for the hotrod project and score better heads for it

Make sense at all? Or would the 318 not be good with the 360 heads - the motor has a crappy 7.5:1 compression, so IM thinking I would need to mill the heads or.....?
Any comments/opinions?

Do NOT put the 360 heads on the 318, the compression will drop unless you have them milled. The 318 has better heads anyway, if anything I'd put the '90 318 heads on the 360. BTW a '90 318 has way more than 7.5 comp, more likely 9-9.5:1.

Hey thanks for reply SD! Guess I was calculating the CR wrong - With the 30 over rebuild and flat tops, I was thinking way wrong - thanks for the correction.

I have a guy that suggests staying with the swirlports like you did, but milling the deck 040 and intake sides 050 - Ive never done head work before - does this require any valve train mods?

With recalcing the CR to where you see it - I would think this 'teen should handle a dual plane and 600 cfm carb jsut fine, right?

Yep..I recommend the Edelbrock Performer intake and 600 cfm carb.

Also, if you want good exhaust flow without headers, go with a set of Magnum engine exhaust manifolds.

and if you can find a pair of 92 only magnum manifolds there quite a bit better but they were for 92 only

thanks guys - this was a 318 I pulled from a 90 cargo van - and plan to put it into my 80 d150 (not sure if you read first post)

Foresee any problems with that?
Motor mount tabs for Vans and trucks were the same, right? or am i totally wrong on that? Am I going to have a problem with the right side motor mount trying to put the 90 318 into an 80 360 engine bay?

I have a set of hedmans that i plan to use, but thanks for the manifold tip nonetheless!

Yes they do..and I think 93 as well. I have a pair of the early castings sitting in my shed.
