Ok, here's the newest issue with the Mule, just started this crap last week, and it has done it five times already.

I go to make certain Left Hand turns and the truck just dies. No jerking or snatching or anything, just shuts down cold dead. I can throw it in Neutral and it will start right back up, put it back in drive, and away we go, all this happens while rolling down the road by the way, LOL, but, seriously, what is this all about?

I have not had this problem making Right Hand turns, only LH. Is it possible that this is an issue with the pickup tube in the gas tank or something? So, far I have not anyone behind me when this happens, but.... It's gotta get solved.

It's a 1986 D100 Custom 318 / 5.2 / V8

Guess What!

I think I have solved the mystery.

Here's one for the books.

Last night I was questioning my FIL about the pressure in the upper radiator hose of the Mule... I started noticing this fast ticking sound in the rear of the motor, as he held the flashlight on the radiator hose, I noticed a strong white arching spark at the top of the distributor cap... BAM!

The dang coil wire had half way popped out of the tower and was arching with the number 6 plug wire!

(so, that makes it a 9 cylinder now, right? LOL)

The rubber boot on the coil wire is fried, the coil wire tower on the distributor is burnt to a crisp, so, I drove the truck to and from work today and nothing, the truck never died on me once!

Think the problem is solved? I hope this was it.

Now keep in mind I have been driving the truck like that for WEEK! It would shut down on certain Left Hand turns and then start right back up.

Burnt boot and tower and the Mule never missed a beat in timing!

If anyone ever makes the comment about Dodge being junk, ask them if they ever heard the story about the "9 Cylinder Mule from Southern Maryland" that took a burin' and kept on turnin' !

So, if your truck ever dies on turns and then fires right back up....

GO STRAIGHT TO THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP...
and look for the charred remains of what used to be!

Thanks,
Dodgem

i used to have, as a company issue car, a dodge dart with a 6 banger that would stall on left hand turns - a problem with the carb float i was told

If your engine shuts off clean and the restarts easily, I suspect there is something in the wiring harness which is is breaking a connection when the vehicle/engine leans over

what you might want to do, being sure to keep well clear of the fan, is to run the engine at idle and work your way around the engine compartment jiggling and gently tugging on the siring to see if you can get it to shut off

other than that, I have no other suggestions

Sounds like some bad/loose wiring. Try make a couple hard corners right and left and see if it does it again. It's possible it was the coil wire, but that would be strange.

I appreciate the replies, and few days behind schedule, but, greatly appreciated none-the-less. I answered my own question in the second reply to this thread.

Thanks,

So it hasn't done it at all since fixing the coil wire?
