First off, I'd just like to say that this site rocks. :rck: What had originally started off as a dump-runner has quite quickly turned into a knuckle busting, testosterone laden, get me out of the house, sanity retention exercise that has often left me with the following thought;...where the heck does that go? Anyways, this is a great way to learn some neat stuff, but i digress from my question. How does one find the build sheet, or even a copy of the dealer invoice, for a 34 year old truck? An even sillier question...what's the difference between the D and W series trucks?
Thanks!

Build sheets are usually located somewhere in the seat. Look on the backside under the spring and underneath under the spring. They can also be under the carpet or anywhere in the truck. There was no certain place where they went.
The D and W designate whether a truck is two (D) or four (W) wheel drive.

Many build sheets are stuck in the springs in the back of the seat, or under it. Sometimes stuck to the floor under the carpet, sometimes stuck to the rear cab wall.
Demon, if it's a factory 4x4 it's a w series, not a d series. Just a heads-up

My '73 never had a build sheet, and I bought it new. It does have a laminated equipment sheet attached to the underside of the hood.

Thanks for all of the insights, but what I was trying to find out if there was a place that I could go th get a replacement, or to find what was stock on my '74. The rig sat in a field for the last 4-5 years, and the first thing I did was to gut the int. many animals used it for a home.

Most dealerships will print you a copy for a small fee,($5.00) It will need your VIN and proof of ownership to get it printed. Go to the service counter to get things rolling. It might take a few minutes to get it for it being an older truck. I had the build sheets printed on my 1990 & 1999 Rams. Lots of info on them to inform you where , when , time + what you got.

Got that too. Let us know about the dealership print out possibility.
I tracked my vehicle through kbb.com. I bought mine RC from a fella who drove it from Arizona to Michigan. There were about 10 stops on the Rc life before I got it. It went to like Nevada, Oklahoma and alot of Arizona stints. I will take my vin to the dealer ship, I have a prospector model and I don't know a whole lot about it.

I went to dodge's site and requested a build sheet. They said they couldn't get one as their system only goes back 10 years.... Here's the email...
