I knew that DC was classifying the Magnum as a truck for CAFE credits, but i didn't know that they where marketing it as one...

Look at the first vehicle in the "Trucks" section:

I dig it. I've always dug wagons for some demented reason, and a Dodge one with a Hemi makes my spit thick.

I like it, but I think it is more of an SUV...

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say - I'm not really crazy over it ....

but I like it better than the new style Chrysler 300

I think that already has a "dated" look or something

can't put my finger on it ... I like that its supposed to be coming out as a rear wheel drive Hemi car, but .... not exactly a car I would paint Orange, weld the doors shut, paint a big "01" on the door and jump over creeks with

LOL

I don't know why, but when I see that 300 I think Bently for some reason..

I love the looks of the magnum, however, not very fond of the 300c, of course I have seen neither in person yet, so I will hold my ground and say I'd have to wait and see before I cast my final vote :)

Even though Im not usually a fan of wagons, I really like the styling of the Magnum. and not to mention RWD and a Hemi makes it perfect!

to make a long story short - CAFE - stands for Corporate Average Fuel Economy - its a standard that the US Government came out with years ago (1975) for new vehicle - it specifically has to do with minimum MPG a vehicle in each certain class HAS to have...

It was basically started because back in the mid 70's - when gas prices started going sky high, and all the small, modest, 4 cyl gas miser cars hit the market.

The current standard is 27.5 mpg for passenger automobiles and 20.7 mpg for light trucks, a classification that also includes sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

So my guess would be that they are marketing the vehicle as a truck or SUV because it won't have to meet tougher MPG standards ....

I guess that classifying it as a truck can't hurt the insurance rates, either.

I'm very close to placing an order but I'm in a quandry about AWD and the impending towing package. Right now I'm wondering and wandering, and trying to pin down my preferred registration name.

One thing in my favor, my wife loves the Magnum! She's also of the 'bigger is better' breed and makes the HEMI the must have. I was forced to trade my Bullitt Mustang for a Yukon last year when our Tahoe bit the dust, and the Magnum fills a nice niche for us (with the 5 y.o.) and me in particular. The only other 'wagon' I ever had, and the first car I ever owned, was a big block '70 Dodge that I worked over to the tune of about 450HP. I miss that Mopar.

Nice to meet you. Thanks for inquiring.

I like both of them.
I like the Magnum's old school, sled look plus the power of the Hemi...can't beat that with much on the market these days.
I like the huge, sophisticated sleekness of the 300C plus, you guessed it...the power of the Hemi.

Wouldn't you love to see a "soccer mom" in a Magnum picking up the kids, getting the groceries, and layin' rubber coming out of the gorcery store parking lot with the kids screaming for more? I would...as a matter of fact my wife is already saying that she wants a Magnum.

Or, how 'bout this one...you're at a stop light, you see an older, sophisticated gray-haired man impatiently waiting for the light to turn green. He's impatient because the kid next to him in his '96 Mustang with obnoxiously-loud exhaust keeps revvin' it up to impress his teeny-bopper friends that are with him. The light turns green and the old man let's 'em know who's really number 1 by lighting up his tires as he leaves them at the light.

Well, maybe I'm just a bit over-anxious about the potential of both of these cars.

That's exactly what my wife expects, except it will be ice hockey.

I love the looks of Magnum (don't like the 300). When I first looked at the pics, I was shocked - I thought to myself, "the car of my dreams"? :) Of course, I haven't seen it. And I don't know how it performs. The reviews for Magnum are generally quite good, but the reviews do mention that even the RT doesn't have the kind of neck-snapping acceleration you expect from 340hp/390lb-ft. So, I'm not sure about burning rubber and leaving everyone at the light. The interior looks good... If the quality is at least as good as the new Durango, I am fine with that. The reviews say it is. I would buy it, if they are willing to discount. If they would only sell at sticker, I might just go with an agile European sport sedan, like the new Saab 9-3. That's a yummy car. We'll see... I am hoping to drive this thing in May, when my dealer receives them.

well, my dealer got an SXT so far and a dealer about 30 miles from here got an RT. Now all I need is some time to take off work and go do a test-drive... I can't wait!!!!

I spoke with a rep at my local dealership this past weekend. She, yes, I said she...was raving about the test ride and drive that DC-sponsored drivers gave her and the other reps. The drivers/techs demonstrated the Magnum's full capabilities through acceleration tests, handling tests, and braking tests all on closed courses. She said that they went through nearly a truckload of tires that day. She also said that the Magnum IS fully capable of roasting the tires and pinning you in the seat as it accelerates. She didn't say anything about "neck-snapping" acceleration, just loads of smooth power and acceleration. The last thing she said is that DC hopes for success with the Magnum to continue to prove their brand (Dodge) for enthusiasts and performance-minded people. If the Magnum's sales are successful (unfortunately, we don't know the numbers to support "success" or "failure") then we should be looking out for the Charger- yes, with a Hemi, as an '06 model.

If it is close to the Hemi C it will be fantastic. Seeing as they share a majority of components I'm sure it will be great:)
I was at a local ride and drive and I'm in awe of the car. You have to drive it to experience it. This is not muscle car territory, but close.

I've seen it in person and drove it today. It's absolutely nothing like a truck in any way, shape, or form. A sport wagon is more like it. I was blown away by the car.

I wrote a review of my visit in the thread called "Magnum... Driven." under Magnum - General Talk.
