On Sunday I finished converting my '87 318 from the stock 2 barrel Holley to the new Eddy 500cfm with matching Eddy Performer intake. I got everything installed & worked out beautifully. Runs GREAT! Starts easy, idles perfect, pulls hard! Fantasic throttle response and so easy to tune.

Of course my high soon turned to a low when the original transmission blew itself to pieces while accelerating up a hill! It sounded like a friggin' grenade when it let go. I lost all forward drive, only reverse still works and it's not happy then. Tranny fluid leaking bad. So,,,it got towed to the local shop I use when I can't take on another project, and the A904 is getting completely overhauled and a new torque converter is being installed.

I hope to be picking it up tomorrow afternoon or Monday. Total price is $1,800.00 for everything. I considered doing it myself, but have a lot going on right now and had to farm it out this time. I figure if it lasts another 20yrs then it's money well spent.

Does $1,800 sound reasonable for a complete overhaul, incl new converter? I rarely pay anyone to touch my vehicles so I always get sticker shock when I see repair bills like this!

Boy does that hurt, both ways. If they put all new parts in with the converter and the labor, sounds about right. Did you look in any junk yards before you gave it to them? Let us know how it turns out.

Yes, it hurts in every way! I didn't want to go the junkyard route, but I have considered all the options. Since this is my driver I decided to go this path to get it back on the road quickly, with a warranty, and with me not having to spend long cold nights on my back under it in the driveway wrestling with a dirty tranny.

It's on the high side, does it include the tow bill, labor, parts etc? If it was me I'd probably have found a 727 to put in there instead.

It does include tow, labor, parts, everything incl 12 month warranty. $1800 is the out-the-door price. I considered stepping up to the 727 but didn't because I didn't want the reduced mpg (727 takes more power to turn), the 904 lasted 20yrs and I didn't want to swap driveshafts or other costs. I figured for a mild 318 the 904 should be sufficient.

I'm picking it up this afternoon. Hoping for the best!

Yeah the 904 should do fine. $1800's not bad tow call, labor and all.
