I see drop springs and an adjustable track bar in the future! It'll be super easy to get that Sport lookin' right. :rck:
And that Sport looks mean. I like the styling of the grill and headlights. Gives it a "Bigger brother of that mean ol' Charger" look.

I like my 08 ok, but this 09 has so many features that I really wish I had on my 08 laramie that I am going to have to trade the 08 in this fall. I have got to get to racking some miles up on the 08, to get some good out of it, before the 09's come out.

According to the spec sheets, the storage bins are an optional bed. I love the new look as it resembles the 1957-58 Chrysler 300. I wish they would come out before the fall. I would love to see one in person. I may have to go to the Detroit auto show just to see it in person. I think Ford really messed up with their new F 150. There is too much going on with their truck, too much bling, too many angles and too many lines in the front end. And I don't like the chrome around the Ford tail lights. I hope for Dodge's sake it beats out the others when they test them side by side.

I don't think it looks anything like the ford....not even close. The grill looks way better. The ford is more of a square piece of chrome rolling back into the hood (like a Beetle), the Ram looks more aggressive. The interior kinda resembles the ford but the Ram's is less "busy". Did you see how many knobs on the center of the ford? Holy crap that looks confusing.

Currently Diesels get a 100,000 mile warranty, not the lifetime warranty the gas models get. Who knows what the 1/2 ton diesel will get, its not do out till next year.
As to 09's being about the same price as an 08'. I suspect they will sticker about the same, but the 08's had 6 grand in rebates last month, come July when they are closing them out, I imagine they might even have bigger rebates than that. This new 09' is going to be Hot, in terms of sales, so I don't expect to see any rebates on the 09's at least until 2010s start to come and then some close out rebates maybe. So as to the same price, not a chance net dollars will likely be at least 6-10 grand more for the 09s vs the 08s when they come out later this year.

I'll have to wait to see one in person, but so far I like it.
If I can afford it, I'll look at one in 2010/2011. The ultimate Ram would be a CTD 3500 4x4, but we'll see how these 1500 diesels pan out and how much they cost.
RamAddiction
01-17-2008, 09:29 PM
It looks like an F150 had sex with a Tundra and a Dodge jumped in for a threesome. They dropped the ball and killed the Dodge Aggresive front end trademark. To me the ram was legendary for having this mean front end which looked like a Ram's head or a Pittbull's head in a car's rear view mirror riding up their rears, it was until 09 far different than all the other plain jane looking trucks.
Now they went ahead and made the truck look like an F150/Tundra and to me it killed the whole Dodge Ram look and made it look like they were riding the curtails of their competition. As they say if it isn't broken why fix it?
I mean I do love some of the new features like rear tool box, and truck bed extender as well as the interior, and storage areas but the front end killed all chances of me buying one. I would have too bought another one but I will stick with my 05 since it only has 31k miles and still bares that mean aggressive Dodge front end which I fell in love with.
I test drove almost every truck out there from Chevy's, to Fords, Toyota, Nissans, GMC's etc etc and so on before I bought my truck and none could compare in looks, aggressiveness and balls to the walls as the god ole ram 1500. I am just not feeling that front end at all, to me its a huge disappointment.

For me I think its the best looking Ram to date, the engine choices and interior is just sick. For sure my next truck when then show up on the dealers lot a Black sport with the hemi is what ill be ordering!
Lookin4aTruck
01-21-2008, 05:03 PM
I don't know why its seems to me to be changed less than anything else on the truck? Maybe even bolder looking now. What I didn't like was the side view where it seems to resemble an F 150 a lot here. But still not bad. Overall less attitude more finesse and way better interior and storage. Seems like they were going after an older demographic here and the suv crowd who goes for Avalanches and vehicles of that type. Hence the new rear coil suspension and way more storage.
What I would have like to have seen was more curves. A slightly more sport type of appearance with not so much the squareness and f-150 like poportions. And the two tone is just for old timers lol... I don't like that either but more sophisticated and less sport like the 02 redesign which I loved.

cc1999
01-22-2008, 09:26 AM
The depreciations is reflective of the big rebates. That said, a 5 year old dodge seems to bring about the same money as a chevy and maybe a little more than a ford. I am not expecting to see any rebates on the 09s for at least a year, at least not big rebates.
I leased my 08' Ram it had a 53% residual on a 24 month lease where the GM had a 62% on the same terms. The kicker was the rebates did not apply to the GM, and the 6 grand rebate did apply to the Dodge, and the dodge had a 4% lower intrest rate. The didference the 6000.00 rebate made was close to 14% not counting the intrest savings. So if you compare the residuals on even terms the Dodge the net effect was a residual dodge 67% vs GMs 62% then there is the 4% intrest gap in dodges favor top of that. The Dodge was much cheaper to own than the GM.

How can your inside person put a price tag on them? Depending on model you can get about a 15K difference in truck to truck. The 09's will be less than 8% higher than the 08's.
SmokinMirror
01-24-2008, 09:43 PM
MSRP will be very close, but rebates will be gone a first, and in some cases because of demand a total difference of up to 35% in price could be in store for us during the early weeks… After a few months you will see the prices lower..

It sounds like 4x4 guy has a salesman thats is making up things as he goes. To the best of my knowledge the order guide is not out yet for the 09' none of the pricing has been set. If the laramie pkg is like it is in the 08's, I don't think you can delete the leather, its part of the laramie pkg, a laramie without leather would be a loaded SLT not a laramie.
I am also thinking that I have seen many employee pricing deals with GMs, Fords, I am having a hard time believing that dodge offers 40% discounts to its employee's. Now maybe on a 08 model you could get there by combining the 6000.00 rebate, discounting to below invoice, then having an employee kick back on top of that, then maybe I could see that 25,000.00 number on a 40K 2008 model, but the 6 grand rebate wont be there on these 09s, likely not for a couple years will the rebates get that big. I think even with an employee discount it would have to be in the low to mid 30s for a 40K, 09' model this fall.

I was kind of wondering about those numbers myself. Because I bought mine with the Chrysler employee plan and on a sticker of just under $41,000.00 I ended up paying $33,000.00. But like you said the $25,000.00 I guess could be reached with a real heafty rebate. But I don't see that happening on a brand new 2009 Ram. At least not an $8,000.00 rebate!

Some like the "plainview" design technique of the outside panels and some dont but the vehicle when weighed on the whole next to the current model in the same class,if we checked off each row on the stat sheet....the 09 highly surpasses the exiting DR.

I'de like a V-8 Cummins with the smaller quad cab, hopefully the autostick tranny, 4x4, maybe a loaded SLT, at least want factory remote start and sunburst metalic orange.

I'm going to take a look once they're out. I'm torn between an 08 and 09. That lifetime warranty sounds real good right now.

I am going to have to give it a test drive first though. I will be in the market for a new ride to replace my 04 late this year.
I do like the bump in HP and the attempt to make the ride more smooth. They appear to want the 1500 to ride smoother and keep the workhorse ride to the 2500/3500.
It will be between the Chevy and the new 09 1500 Ram for me.

I love my 06, so not sure about the 09 just yet. I really dig the interior layout...but some of the colors so far have me a bit concerned. Need to pass judgment when I can see one in person and test drive. Power wise...slight bump in hp and tq is good, but was easily obtained on the 3gen anyway. Kinda want to see what is in store with the 2010...and the possibility of an R/T options.

Any idea when the '09 Rams will hit the dealers? My lease is up on my Grand Caravan in August and I sure would like to slip into a Ram.

i dont understand how some people cant like this beast of a truck
it is pretty, I can't wait to see a black sport...anyhow one thing I just picked up on from those pics that I happen to NOT like, is the seam on the front hood not matching up with the crease where the hood and fender meet, its like halfway over the headlight which doesn't look as nice as the 3rd gen.

gotta agree with you on the hood line... but i'm guessing it has something to do with the headlight adjustment tho.

ya, I'm sure there must be some reason other than just putting it there...O well I think that is the first thing I noticed that I don't like about it...besides the rear bumper with the molded peices for exhaust anyway aha

cant wait to see what black housing headlights will look like. i just know the aftermarket co's are going to butcher them haha... unless they make some like the black ones with the clear corners
haha very true, I think I hate over 90% of aftermarket light/tail lights out there these days

is the seam on the front hood not matching up with the crease where the hood and fender meet, its like halfway over the headlight
It was done that way to hide the cut line from side view and to style the line as the side crease style line is on the side of the fender as in same form and direction.

ah thanks, that makes sense. I just like it better the other way (considering the front view rather than side) but you gotta go either way so can't complain.

The 09 should be a prime canidate for a reverse open hood as a modification...like a old vette...good for truck shows where they want you to open your hood and show your motor..with a R/T Hood the scoops will show when open nicely from the front on a reverse open hood.

not a huge deal to me but i just like the way it flows with the lines in the 3rd gen.

Not diggin the new headlights....looks kinda like a dam ford.. Rear fender storage is pretty slick, but you can't put a topper on it then. Maybe that's the reason behind having that...for guys who don't like toppers on their trucks. I'm just waitin for that 426 HEMI baby!!!

Rambox is an option....headlights are made by a division of Magna.
This 09 was designed mostly on Plan view....def below.
Plan Shape
Plan view is simply the elevational view of a car as seen from directly above.
Plan shape, refers to the amount of curvature in body sides, and particularly front and rear ends, as seen from above (ie in plan view).
Cars have predominantly constant curvature in plan, but these days this curvature will accelerate or speed up noticeably towards the front and rear ends (where it is referred to as 'tuck in') leading into much more generously radiused corners - or in some cases, effectively, no corners at all.
Clever use of plan shape - visually pulling the corners back - provides the best opportunity to disguise the greater overhangs required by ever-tougher impact testing.

wat the hell is everyone talking about? this doesnt look like a ford at all! you guys are weird! this is the best looking ram to date and is gonna be a sick ride! Th einterior is friggin amazing! I have an 04 and im stoked to get an 09 this fall! Slap on a STS turbo and bam thats all i need! O and Im sorry but this new design looks great for the 1500 sport but i think its gonna look weird for the 2500/3500 models..just my opinion

the truck itself doesn't look like a ford, the headlights, when looked at a certain angle, look like the fords...and i'm not a fan of Ford what-so-ever. HOWEVER, when the current ram body style came out, i didn't like that change either, but it grew on me. Maybe i'll get used to it. the rest of the truck is amazing, especially when the 426 Hemi goes into it.

Is this just speculation or did you read something about this engine becoming available soon? As I understand it now, I don't think the 6.1 is even going to be available for the DR. Just curious.

Unless they figure out a way to improve gas mileage I can see the 6.1's in the trucks getting as bad of gas mileage as the 5.9's.
Ok, I take that back but it would be a bit worse due to more cubes to feed.
jlpeterson85

i'll deal with the gas consumpion for that motor. i have the 5.9 now, so i'm in no better shape anyways. plus, i know how good the hemi's sound now....i can't wait to hear what the 6.1 will sound like

Would sure like to know where everyone is reading about the possibility of a 6.1 being used in the Ram...the latest I heard was a "possible" R/T Ram with an upgraded 5.7...but only in rumor. Can someone point me to any publication talking about a 6.1 going into a Ram...would make some good reading.

I believe on Motor Trend.com I saw it a few days ago. It said "rumored to try to pu the 6.1" etc. Nothing concrete that I have seen.

i also want to know why they stopped making the SRT10? anyone know why
? as well as the mega cab? were they not good sellers?

they stopped with the srt10 because it was not selling to much
Monkie
02-14-2008, 07:51 AM
When something isn't made anymore, i'd say 99% of the time it's because they weren't making money, or couldn't see a time when the could make money on it. With gas going up srt's were sitting on lots, same with the mega probably...it's a heavy truck for a gas engine and the diesel price probably scares away the avg buyer, and without a long bed it's practically useless commercially

Also, the Viper is on its last legs so there will be no other need for the engine. The V10 will die.

The srt10s were created on a by order list,06 was the year to end it for that model as Conner Ave came down.srt10s made money even in small number sales as the parts were already there between the models Viper, moded diesel parts and the reg sb ram.
