Noted on my last oil change that my oil filter appeared to have been about 80% full of oil when I spun the filter off. The engine was luke-warm, having only been run for about 20 minutes for errands around town. I let it set for about a 1/2 hour before commencing.
Now, I would have expected that with my recent hop about town, that oil would stream down the sides of the filter as I spun it off. Thus, I was surprised that it did not. The filter oil seemed to be the same temp as the oil in the pan. Could the BYPASS have engaged or is it a mystic act of physics. I just want to ensure that my filter is actively filtering.
The particulars are:
AMS Oil 15w40
AMS Oil Filter
Last changes 20k miles ago
Engine has 100K on it
2001 2500 2WD
I have a sample out to the oil lab and am awaiting results.
