I'm about to purchase this black flare side bed for my 81 d-150 from a salvage yard the guy said it will fit my truck since i have a short w/b he said a flare side was rare for dodge except for the little red express he wants 300.00 for it is that a good price? It looks just like the bed on the express except the paint is black with light blue pin strips.

Sounds like a "Warlock" box.
What kind of shape is it in and does it have a good tailgate?

If it is salvageable without to much work it is well worth it, even if ya have to put a new floor in it. If most parts are rusted through then not.
Around here it is very rare to find a complete stepside box in any condition, so the cost to bring them up to good shape is fairly high. A new tailgate alone is $300

Any decent stepside bed is worth 300 bucks.

Just watch the corners for rust. It is a HUGE job to replace the corner sheet metal.

Price is all right. Make sure you get all the bed rails, brackets and hardware with it. It will bolt right on to your existing frame with no modifications.

What about the fuel tank?
Pretty sure it's the same tank but different filler neck and hose.
