:VHOT: Does anyone else have the problem such as this, My "check your engine idiot" light came on...took it in to dealer.... and low and behold no codes, they cleared the light at a cost of $85..two days later it came back on... they did a free recheck, again no problem codes...and cleared it.... and yes u guessed it...the next day... "ITS BACK"... talk about annoying :help: other then breaking the light permanently...has anyone else had this little dilemma? sorely its not the most pleasant thing to stare at cruising down the highway at nite.....

On my 3500 the check engine will just flash for no reason. It may do it once everyday, or it might be weeks before it does it again. It's the same with the anti-lock brake lite. The lite does not stay on, it will be just a single flash. I had it to the shop for the recall on engine speed run on thing with the cruise and told them about it, but they could not find anything. I think the computers in the truck or more advanced then what they can read.

I have a 2002 cummins and I have had the brake light come on and flash, I stopped , shut it of and it was gone. Just like a computer, Iguess we have to reboot.

Check your own codes. With vehicle shut off, place key in the ignition. Turn key to the on position (just before the engine starts to crank) back to the off position. Back to the on position, and again to the off position, Finally back to the on position and look for the codes in the odometer window (example p1753). I usually give about 1 sec between key cycles. Hope this helps, I have not heard of a check engine lite on with no stored codes.

Where do I find out what the codes mean? She is a long distance away, and so is the truck. There is no way for me to check it myself. Any info will be greatly apreciated. :help:

Here is a link to a site that talks about what the codes mean.
P.S.
I just tried checking your code numbers on the site I mentioned above, and it didn't look like it really applied, but maybe it will point you in the right direction. If not, you should be able to call the dealership and ask the service tech what the codes mean.

My check engine light came on at 85 miles. Dealer had it a week for fuel pressure unit. Truck still ran but pressure was low. No problem since.
