I have a 99 2500 with the cummins, I just removed the factory muffler and replaced it with the straight thru pipe kit purchased from Geno's garage at a modest price of $65 dollars. A little elbow grease and 30 minutes later I was impressed. For all you diesel enthusiasts out there contemplating this I say "GO FOR IT". The noise level is far from intrusive and you definetely get the "ALL Business sound" Not to mention I watch my fuel economy jump from an average of 23 mpg to a robust 26MPG, and we are talking all stock here.... The response of the engine to throttle is most noticeable, a little turbin chirping is noticable at 40 MPH but rocks your world at 70 :ylsuper: Like to hear others response to this issue.......

Yes I will agree a little loud. I bought my 97 2500 diesel dog that way. K and N filter at the intake side and straight pipe out the back like factory. Nothing like driving under a bridge and hammering it at 2400 RPMs with the windows up or down. I seem to get about 20+ MPG on the highway. She has 128000 miles on the meter.

Alright guys, is it really that great? I'm just concerned about the noise because I'm constantly driving around at 2500 RPMs. My 4:10 gears keep me up there and I don't want it so loud I'll hate driving my normal 70 mph to and from work. Especially if I hook up a trailer!
I guess I just need to hear one for myself - not one that's recorded. They never compair their recording to a stock exhaust.

When I drove it home from, Texas 2200 miles it definently kept me awake through the night. On the highway its not bad. Although when I drive through quiet towns I keep the foot out of the gas and run at low RPM's. Cant see where it would meet federal noise standards. To each his own

It's the most awesome sound I've heard in a while. I loved mine with the straight pipe. But I would really recomend getting a 4" turbo back and simple don't use the muffler. The 3" factory pipe really restricts flow. My friend has a Turbo Talon, and he's got 3" turbo back, he has a "baby" turbo (Mitsu 14G) which appears to be about half the size of the stock Cummins turbo. I honestly belive that the 4" system is the best bet for these trucks. Even the 5" exhaust have a 4" downpipe, nothing bigger would fit, the hole is simply not big enough. Get a pipe kit from bigexhuast.com (I think that's what it was) you can get 4" turbo back all pipe. Very nice, and you'll lower your EGTs that much more by allowing the exhuast gasses to expand out of the turbine housing quicker. You'll spool a tad faster with the 4" over the 3" also! Just my opinion

another option is 6ft of 3in pipe flared at each end and a welder, replaces both the muffler and the resionater. same effect for $20

I must admit i didnt see quite the gains you did, but it did lower my engine temps, helped fuel econ. and power. (and little cars like that sound on the highway, right?)
