I think your dad is right .. I dont think the bell housings are the same either ..... if I am not mistaken isnt the starter on the top of the slant six versus on the underside

there some pics of the truck dad is taking the doors and fenders for his powerwagon im wanting to trade the bed off for a good 72-80 bed and were taking this and that and selling the rest looks like bellhousing dont swap between the two and the way i read it the trans wont swap either

Slant 6 bell is different, however the trans will work behind a 318, if you get a 318 bell.

about putting the doors on a 72-80 cab its there gonna be a wider gap than stock?someone in a thread mentioned he thought a .75-1 inch wider gap but nobody ever confirmed that is it true?

I don't think the gap will be any bigger but the body lines are a bit different, probably look a little funny w/o using the newer fenders also.

were putting the fenders and and doors on dads truck to make it all match on his. now what i thought about the bed was to put it on my 80 the 86 bed needs wheel arches anyway so ill buy 80 wheel arches to make it match my fenders can i just get some of the trim and place it over the body line on the bed and run it down the side of the truck and make that look alright?

on that tranny can i just use the clutch bell etc from the a833 od 4 speed for that granny 4 speed?

I've seen an older truck w/ the newer shouldered bed on it, it actually looked pretty good, didn't clash w/ the older body lines at all. The body line that runs over the wheel arches matches up perfectly.

got another question this thing has a lost title and he thought the title he had was from another state so if i did decide to use this truck could i get another parts truck and use the title off it?just wondering since it has the vin stamped on the dash i thought about trying to find a 3/4 or 1 ton frame since i will need a larger truck for my business than the half ton im starting out with?

I wouldn't tell too many about it if you did ;) The VIN tag is riveted to the dash, you'd have to change the dash or swap tags. It is frowned upon is most places, but personally I see nothing wrong with it, it's really no different than using another cab w/ it's matching title, or replacing the cab and keeping the original VIN and title. Only time I think it's wrong is if something is up with the original title, ie if the truck is hot etc. I would have the DMV run the current VIN first, and see what comes up, there could be money owed on it too, as in a lien from a car lot or title loan company. I've gotten several decent cars only to find I can't get the title because of a lien on it, so ended up having to part them out. I don't buy anything to fix unless I see a clear title now.

You are going to have to get a bell that has the NP 435 bolt pattern on it. The clutch/bellhousing will need to be an 11" and flywheel and linkage for the NP435 granny. The A833 is a more economical tranny in my opinion and for that you will need a 10.5 clutch and flywheel/bell for that. If you can wait a couple months I will be swapping my granny out for an A833OD and you can have the parts from that for a small fee. Let me know

You're right, speed. I swapped doors from my '85 to my '74, and the lines didn't match at all. Fortunately for me the fenders on the '85 were mint so I just swapped those as well. no problems at all :D
