The fuel gauge in my 81 d-150 stop working I think the sending unit is bad and if so is there somewhere I can get a replacement or where I can buy an after market guage and sending unit that will work.

Is this the frame mounted tank just behind the cab?
There are a number of places online that repair tachs,gauges, speedometers and senders, etc. Here's a few...

Yes, it is the fuel tank mounted to the frame on the drivers side right behind the cab. It is quite a large tank, and the old sending unit was a circle at the top, with 3 lines going in/out, with the fuel sender located beneath. I bought a new gauge set from dolphin instruments, but they gave me a universal sender, which doesn't even work with the original gauge. I'm sure it may not match up to the original, but autometer has many programmable resistance gauges. I will try these websites but if you happen to know where i can get the exact oem fit sender that would be great. Thanks!!

Dodge Connection has one for $90.00. Here is link:
Thank you so much!!! I also finally found a dealer that had one too just in case, for 115$, but now my next question is what size fuel tank do i have..It is as described in on that website link, and it is plastic, but it looks like it would hold a lot more...Someone said there may be a sticker in the hood somewhere....any ideas? Thanks again!

My 77 also has 20 gallon tank. Not sure, but think they use same sending unit on tanks up to 30 gallon.

Hello, thanks for all the info. Aparently there are 2 different numbers on the fuel senders for the 20 gallon and the 30 gallon, but she said sometimes in the end they have 2 different part numbers but are actually the same part. She is awaiting on the 'central parts specification center' which they would order the tank from, and they could measure it, but she hasn't been able to get ahold of them yet, and any part that i buy is non-returnable, but i measured the tank and it is rougly 10x10x64, which when i calculated, was about 30 gallons, in which i don't think with those dimensions can be any near the dimensions of a 20 gallon. If its not too hard to measure your 20 gallon, i would know immediately and then i could proceed to ordering. Thanks again!

Have to go to work, but leaned under truck and got a couple measurements. Will get under truck in morning and get more accurate.
L=64"
W=10"
Looks about as tall as wide. I ran out of gas pulling into gas station once. Took 20.1 gallons to fill up.
