Ok so I have a Prodigy P3 Brake Controller with a plug and play connector. So the plug and play cable goes to the P3 and then to the blue connector under the dash to the right side of the brake pedal. Now I looked at the back of the blue plug and there are 4 wires connected so this blue wire from the back of the truck has to plug into something? please help me.

ok....explain that again.....not sure what you are talking about. The blue wire from the back of the truck is usually the brake wire, but that should be wired into your 7-pin connector. So paint me a better picture.

Everything you explained is perfect. Now its the other end I am referring to. I have the blue wire coiled up in the cab of the truck and I don't understand what I connect it to. It must go somewhere for the brake controller to alert the trailer brakes to apply pressure. So where does that blue cable plug into?

Hmmmmm.....When I installed my voyager, all I did was wire the controller to the harness and plug it into the blue plug you were describing. Did your truck come with the tow package or was the 7 pin added afterward?

The 7 pin was added afterward. That is sort of what I was trying to explain is that the blue 4 pin under the dash has 4 wires already wired into the back of it. So I still have this blue wire from the 7 pin with no where to connect it.

Wire the blue wire directly to the brake controller. That is the only way I can think of to do it. You do not have a factory tow package so I cannot be sure what is wired to the blue connector.

Ok I can help you out in this field since I spent so much time on my '03 1/2 ton figuring it all out on how to make it plug and play.

In a normally equipped towing packaged truck all you do is take the Dodge specific harness supplied with your Prodigy controller and plug it into the connector down by your brake pedal as in this picture:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0567_00.jpg
And this one:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0566_00.jpg

From this blue connector it travels out of the cab of your truck and behind the drivers front wheel well liner to another connector, as in this picture:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0573_00.jpg
And this one:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0569_00.jpg

Now here is where your truck is different fron your towing package equipped brethren. The factory brake wire stops at this point and does not continue to the rear of your truck, the next couple of pictures will show the missing pin and wire you would need to make the connection in the factory harness/connector:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0568_00.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/low1/000_0572_00.jpg

You can remedy this in one of three ways; first, splice the blue wire you have coiled in your truck to the Prodigy's harness (I would not do this option, but thats just me), second, Splice into the factory harness behind your wheel well liner; or thirdly, buy a couple of pins and terminate your blue wire and insert it into the factory connector (this is the option I chose)

Hope this helped a little...

ok thanks so much. This explains why there is a wire in the second plug hole under the dash. However I do notice your picture does not have anything in the second hole.

Where did you get the pin to add to your plug? Do you have a part number or anything when you purchased the pin?

If you look at the first picture, I pulled that terminal from the blue connector to get a part number

where did all the pictures go? this thread is interesting,

I have a 04 1500 5.7 HEMI with
tow package 7 pin and 4 pin conectors and what to install a brake controler, cause I just
got a used car hauler with tandem axles and brakes on one axle but my problem si that
the trailer has incomplete wiring form the axle to the coupler, and the conector form the
trailer is a flat 4pin.

where do I conect the wires fron the brakes? please help! never done anything like that before!

Jeff, can you help me?....anyone? thanks!

Hey Ben,

First off...Welcome to DT!! Secondly...the pictures were hosted it seems on Photobucket and they got deleted or his account is gone. Anyway..I was trying to follow what you wrote, but cannot....explain to be as best you can about this trailer and what all you definately have to hook up the brakes.

imagin that there are no wires on the trailer, only behind the tires are 2 small wires that comes from the brakes but have 5" long

the thing is, ¿where do this goes? where can I find a diagram to wire lights and brakes,
something that explains all the components that I need, and how to do it too. bether now?

forgive my english, is my second lenguage.

thanks!

ok.....the wires that are coming from the brakes are for the brake hook-up. Without those wires connected to anything the brakes on the trailer will not work. If it is a tandem trailer, they usually have brakes on all 4 wheels. If not, then you might consider adding brakes to the other two wheels depending on how much weight you are going to be pulling and what the local laws are.

I have attached some diagrams for you to look at. Let me know if you need more info.

Hey, those are great diagrams .
Where did they come from?

On aftermarket 7pin wiring , I understand that every thing wire wise is the same as the factory package, except for a blue wire that is left loose either in the engine bay or taped to the blue plastic plug, set fot the controller. It is this blue wire that cases confusion. I understand that this blue wire is to be spliced into the blue plastic wiring plug in order to operate the electric brakes, the question is into which wire must it be spliced within this blue plug, to actuate the brakes properly?

I found them doing a google search.

I thought the blue wire that was tucked up was supposed to be connected to the brake controller.

yes , that is the question.
At which point does the wire connect to the controller, before the plug for easy plug and play, or direct to the controller somewhere?

You can usually connect it to the harness that comes with the controller or if your controller does not have a harness, then the blue wire gets connected to the brake control wire on the controller.

thank you Jeff, and thanks for the welcome too.

I will try to wire my trailer with this information, right now I`m welding my fenders and coupler and changing bearings.

see ya!

Can You Help Me Find My "blue Wire"? Or Is This Blue Harness?

The blue plug you show in pic 1 and 3 is the one you plug the harness into from the brake controller.

Wire the harness to the brake controller and plug it in. Make sure you set-up the controller when you hook the trailer and every time you hook up after that.

CTDreamin

yes, make sure you adjust the controller every time....dont want too little braking or locking em up on the interstate :(

really esay to install, thanks for your help!
I got this harness in a local trailer rental store and was as easy as it gets
once I knew what the blue wire was like, thanks again

A magnet was missing when I bought this car hauler, and the wires of lights
and stuff were to bad, so I took everything off and re-wire again from scratch.
any suggestion on how can I wire the magnets? I don`t know where the wires goes to

BenGo
09-10-2008, 07:02 PM
Found out that the magnet dos not have a polarity and one wire goes to de ground and the other
to the brown wire form the trailer.

I have a 2008 dodge ram 1500 I purchased without a tow package. I put a hitch on the back and now I need a 7 pin. On my ford I found the blue wire in the wiring harness near the back of the truck. I guess they use the same wiring harness on all trucks tow package or not. Does Dodge run the blue wire to the back and if so where do I start looking?

If you do not have the tow package the blue wire is not run from the front to the back. You will need to run the blue wire from your 7-pin to the front to get brake signal.
