Hey has aybody got this besides me. First when i went down a steep mountain i hit my brakes at 70mph. When i slowed down enough i let go of the brakes but then my brake light came on in the dash. The second time i got her stuck in some ice. While i tried getting her out with the tires spinning the light came on again.

I found online with another Dodge vehicle that does the same thing. They claim it's the fluid lever inside the master cylinder setting off a sensor. That makes sense. I was thinking something with the handbrake cable,But now I don't think so. It must be the level of the fluid tilted etc.Basically, I've heard of one other person with the problem and it was a 2.4. Just like some R\T's have their quirks and my SE does not.

Mine does it too.. The brake light pops on when I take an exit ramp - it's a spaghetti bowl, and I usually take it fast. It's meant to be taken going 25, and I've done about 65 coming off of it.... The light pops on, along with an annoying chime, and then about 30 seconds after I'm leveled out again it then dissapears.

I noticed it a lot more in the cold weather. If I'm on the freeway, and then when I hit the exit (any exit) and come to a stop at the exit ramp light, it will then pop on (after driving for about 30 min).

I also noticed it in the morning when I'm headed to work. Of course it's cold, and I'm driving on the city streets towards the freeway, and get stopped at a stop light, and it'll turn on.

I go in for service in 1500 more miles (my free oil change, and etc) I am going to have them replace the door locks for the second time (the second recall), and check out what's up with the brake light popping on.

I"m talking about the red brake light that comes on in the center gauge. The same light will come on when you pull your handbrake, but if you are in drive with the handbrake pulled it will blink, where as when this "error" or whatever happens, it doesn't blink at me - so it very well could be the fluid levels, but I always thought if it was with your regular brakes (the foot pedal that controls all four) there was a seperate light for those, and if it was with your handbrake or ebrake that that was a seperate light.

I'll let you know what happens in 1500 miles - in the meantime, if you learn something before hand, lemme know! Thanks!

Ya let us know. I have a new thing happening every once in awhile the starter gets stuck when I turn the key on. Each time it was a cold day. I may just spray some WD40 in there. But then just spraying it into where the key is different than my other cars where you had a gap where you could spray it in. I doubt my idea will work now that I've thought about.

What do you mean it gets stuck? The actual key mechanism won't release the key, or it won't turn?

It makes the noise as if you are still turning the key on. It sounds as if it catches and releases and then catches again.Like when someone doesn't know the car has already started and they're still turning the key sound. It doesn't happen everyday thanks God.

I don't know if that is exactly what mine does, but when it's cold outside, and I stick the key into the ignition. When I start it (sometimes) it will keep cranking, even though I have let go of the key, but it's not the bad "grinding" sound, and it will keep going until the car has started. It only lasts about 2 - 3 seconds, but no longer than 5. It's only when it is cold and the car is not starting up as quickly as it would on a hot day.

If you are hearing the grinding sound what that is doing is it is actually grinding. It is not good for your starter. Basically the starter has a small gear that turns the main crank of the engine, and that's how it gets it going, but if the main crank of the engine is already going, and that gear tries togo and contact the main crank to start it, it will grind it, and wear down the starter's teeth. If you are hearing that, you need to have it checked out, and have them service it for you.

Oh ya that's not good at all for sure, It knocks some time off the life of the starter. I remember this happening years ago to someone and my father told me about that when teaching me to drive.

The Avenger has a new type of starting system. You no longer have to 'hold-the-key' to start the engine. Just tap the key to start - then release the key immediately. The computer takes over starting the car!

Try it - you'll like it! :rck:

:drivingz:Thanks anyway Ernie, I have been doing that and it does it when your hand isn't even touching it.
