Hi Gang,

I need some more help.As you know I have 1992 Dodge D-150.It has the V6 in it.My problem is my transmission isnt locking up,or as some would say,not going into over-drive.As far as the shifting it does fine.
I turned the key on and off a few times. It said the Transmission Solenoid is shorted out.Does anyone know xcatly where it is.Ive been told its in the valve body.Is it something I can change fairily easly,or does it need to go to a shop.I have found the part localy for about $40.
Im not sure what transmission the truck has in it.If some one could help me there too.I know its a 3sp.On the gear shilfer,it goes...P R N D 2 1

Thanks,
Michael

The 3 spd and 4 spd transmissions have soleniods on the valve body... You will need to know which you have to get the correct part since both have the same shift gate pattern. The 4 spd also has an OD button on the dash.
On the transmission the 3 spd with lockup will have an electrical connection to the rear of the pan.
The 4 spd OD transmission has an electrical connection near the shift linkage, 2 wires is OD only and 3 wires it would have lockup also.
The 4 spd soleniod(s) are mounted on the valve body with Torx head screws, T-25. (The valve body is also held in with T-25 screws)
I'm not sure on a 3 spd but suspect there similiar.
Other than standard wrenches, the T-25 torx head driver is the odd tool you might need.

Thanks B-300,

Ill check it out.Mine does have a O/D switch on the dash.

BTW,will I have to drop the Valve Body?If so,will all the check valves(aka those ball bearings)come out?

Thanks,

Valve body removal requires you drain the fluid, remove the pan, the linkages on the transmission, also the OD wiring.
Get a drain plug kit if you can afford it and a filter kit with gasket along with at least 6 qts. of ATF+4 fluid before starting.
No ball bearings or other small parts will fall out unless something is broken inside.
